Mother: Martha BLACKMAN |
AARON LEE may have been born in Johnston Co., N. C. His parents DAVID LEE & MARTHA BLACKMAN lived there when Aaron and other relatives removed to south Alabama about 1815. The clan moved to Conecuh Co., Alabama, first. From there they moved to Wilcox County and Lowndes Co., Ala. In early 1840s, Aaron, his wife and some of his children moved lastly to Neshoba Co., Mississippi, the Plattsburg area near the county lines of Neshoba and Winston Counties.
Mr. Everret Lee, great grandson of Joel, lived near Plattsburg, Winston County. In 1967 he pointed out the graves of Aaron Lee & wife Mary. They are unmarked and surrounded by a square trench. They laid along side of a gravel road, just across from the Rials Residence. Another old, abandoned road ran near the graves.
We had difficulty in documenting Aaron and Mary to be the parents of all the children listed. This was finally accomplished by finding an Alabama deed from the older Lee couple "to our son, Joel Lee." Book J, Pages 750, Lowndes Co., Alabama. Later at Alsay's death and probation of his estate, 1869, all of his brothers and sisters were named. See Probate Minutes 18, Page 588. If he was the son of Aaron and Mary, then the others were children also.
In 1844, Aaron Lee (Sr) appointed Samuel W. Lee guardian of the heirs of Mary Edna Lee Salter, (his daughter) Lowndes Co., Alabama. She did not die until about 1857.
In 1844, Aaron Lee (Sr) appointed Issac Ingram as guardian of the heirs of Martha Lee Ingram (his daughter), Wilcox Co., Alabama. She did die somewhere about this time
In 1845, Aaron and Mary Lee sold their land in Lowndes Co., Alabama "to our son Joel Lee of Neshoba Co., MS. See Book J, Page 750
Harold Fisher's files contain copies of all these papers. This is important: the county of Wilcox is adjacent to Lowndes in Alabama, in fact I think some portions of one of the counties was transferred to the other county. This makes difficult in knowing which courthouse to research.
The executors of the estate of Aaron Lee, in Neshoba Co., were sons Aaron S. Lee and Joel Lee, 1857. Book J, page 564, Neshoba, shows them selling Aaron's land as Executors.
In 1854 Aaron, Sr sold Neshoba land to Joel, without Mary Lee's signature. Does that mean she was deceased by this time?
