We know that our ancestress, Sarah Clarke Hooter, had a brother by the name of Daniel Clarke because the succession papers of her husband, Joseph Clarke name her brother as guardian of his minor children. We know nothing else, for a certainty about him. Was the the same Daniel Clarke of New Orleans, who lived about the same time and was immensely wealthy, the same person? The latter was a U. S. Representative and he died in New Orleans August 16, 1813, and was buried in St. Louia Cemetery No. 1
The series of books SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA CHURCH RECORDS by Father Donald Hebert lists all of the various dates used in connection with the Clarks.
For example, our proven records of Michael Hooter, 1791-1867, show his baptisimal records and he grandparent's names are given as Patrick Clarke native of Ireland and Catherine Malone, also of Ireland.
Strangely, in the baptisimal records of Patrick's grandson, James Clark, Jr, Patrick is shown as a native of Virginia. Apparently he spent some time in VA after leaving Baltimore, and before arriving in LA. He and his wife were still alive as they acted as godfather of grandson, Daniel Clark, bapt Sep 6, 1806. The father of Daniel was deceased.
He is sometimes confused with his brother FRANCIS CLARKE.
