The first person to settle in this section, and from whom the broad plateau took it's name was Page Blake, who came about 1831 or possibly a year earlier & built his cabin on what is now Section 17 Twp. 5,Range 5. From his name,this area was named Blake's Prairie to which it is still until present day.

"Page Blake was in Morgan County, Illinois in 1819; his name appears as a signer of the Constitution of Morganian Society against slavery in Illinois. Next we find him enlisting in the Winnebago Uprising in 1827 at Gratia Cove, Michigan Territory(now Wisconsin); then in 1832 enlisted at Cassville, Territory of Michigan for service in the Blackhawk War. At age 85, he applied for pension (1871), while living in St. Charles township, Floyd Co., Iowa." {book is available from the Higgenson Book Co. 148 Washington Street, P.O. "The first settler in the township of Patch Grove, Wisconsin was Page Blake; Page Blake & Simon Blake were living in Waterford, Vermont and on Caledonia County, Vermont Census 1810.
He had gone to Illinois by 1820.
In 1809 he bought 300 acres from John Duncan and was listed as a resident of Bath, New Hampshire. Page & Sarah Blake were listed on the 1870 census in Iowa. They sold their land to their daughter."
