HARRISON, John Scott, 1804-1878

HARRISON, John Scott, (son of President William Henry Harrison of Ohio, grandson of Benjamin Harrison of Virginia, father of President Benjamin Harrison of Indiana, and great-grandfather of William Henry Harrison [1896- ]), a Representative from Ohio; born in Vincennes, Knox County, Ind., October 4, 1804; completed preparatory studies; studied medicine but abandoned the profession; engaged in agricultural pursuits; elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1857); unsuccessful candidate for reelection; retired to his estate "Point Farm," near North Bend, Ohio, and died there May 25, 1878; interment in the Harrison Tomb, North Bend, Ohio.
