Daughter of a well know potter in Caldwell, NJ. Bible of Alice Smith
has her dates and her parents. Birth year may have been 1770, born
near Caldwell; died at age 102, buried Evergreen Cemetery.
She was 'a big, heavy woman, famed for her patchwork quilts and dried
apples,' according to Henry C. Smith who visited her in 1865 when
visiting Morristown while on furlough to recover from the effects of
his term in a Confederate prison.
