Mary Shippen Willing Byrd was the first cousin of Ann Shippen wife of Gen Benedick Arnold. During the Revolution she was under suspicion for being a Tory and had to fight to keep Westover. She won and Westover was not sold until her death. The DAR accepted her as a Patriot in 1993 in the Application of Anne Winchester Savage. [S501]
