Father:
Richard M. CROWSON Mother: Hulda LINDSEY |
!Note:The land for the Ebenezer (Methodist) Church and cemetery near Benson, AR, was donated by William and was built by he and some of his sons. William was buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery. From notes of John L. McCurdy. William was a Methodist preacher. He married a Harrison who was said to be related to President Harrison. His granddaughter said "He was a devout Christian of the Methodist faith and knew his bible by heart."
!Note: William's grandson, Richard Baxter Crowson indicates that William did not have a middle name-Miller. Middle names were not common to this period of time. Where did the middle name come from??(1995-Bill Crowson, Florence,Al) William was born in Tennessee, was married in Madison County, Alabama and the census of 1820,1830,1840 he was head of a household in Shelby Co. Al. The census of 1850 he was head of household in Saline County Arkansas, having moved in 1849 by wagon train from Alabama to Arkansas, along with some of his children and their families. Both William Crowson and his wife Catherine died at Tull, Arkansas. William died April 18, 1858 and Catherine died November 9, 1858. They are both buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
!Note: From the research of Lesa Holcombe William was born in Oct 23 1793 in Madison Co Al. I do not believe that Richard his father was in Alabama that early. Madison Co Al did not exist in 1792, this was Indian territory. Lesa indicates that he died in Saline Co Ark, other research says Grant Co Ark.,but Grant County was not established at this time. William Crowson settled the area of Shelby County, Alabama at an early date, before Alabama was a State. He was a frontiersman and an Indian fighter, took part in the early border wars between the white settlers and the straggling tribes of Indians that infested the West and South. He assisted in moving the Indians to the Territory now occupied by them.(traditional story passed down for generations).
