Mother: Mary MCKELVEY |
Keithfield plantation, 384 acres with 15 slaves was adjacent to Broughton Hall, the Wadboo Barony, and near Moncks Corner. William, Jr. inherited Keithfield at his fathers death in 1754.
His brother James, owned Pond Bluff Plantation near Eutaw. He purchased land in Orangeburg District and in 1762 bought Pond Bluff from James. He continued to acquire land by grant and deed on both sides of the Santee. When St. Matthews Parish was cut off from St. John's in 1765, he was one of the commissioners to build the church, and in 1767 he was elected a vestryman. About 1773 he sold Pond Bluff to Francis Marion, who died there in 1795. The house burned in 1816, but Mrs. Marion bequeathed the plantation to Keating Simon, whose descendants owned it until it was covered by Lake Marion. [S14]
