All of the older Salter Children, plus their parents, have their birthdates inscribed in the Salter Bible which was once owned by Miss Clara Stricklin of Yazoo City. Harold Fisher photographed the Bible and gave the records to the Mississippi Genealogical Society where they will be published in 1997 or 98. Clara gave the book to her niece in Texas and we can get no response from her.
Estate papers, Wilcox Co., Al name the family. Samuel's stone at Mt. Moriah reads: Samuel Salter, who died January 7th, 1837 (or 32), age 50 years. An honest man; the best gift of God.
Her marker: Mary C. Salter, who died Sept. 14, 1842, age 63 years.
Though affliction sore, Bound me down in death, I did but praise my God, With my parting breath.
Samuel Cryswell Salter who died June 28, 1834, age 26 years:
The tender sould has fled. It left the body low. It would not here in sin remain It would to glory go.
The three markers were erected by Watkins Salter. The monument to his wife, Mary reads: The captive body still, Has left an aching void This world can never fill.
Per tax list, Samual and Polly were in Conecuh County by 1818.
In passports thru Creek Territory, passports for Nathan Jiner were signed by James Salter, Samuel Salter and Eleazar Cummings. Both Salters lived in Washington Co., GA.
CONT All 8 of the surviving children of this couple are named in the Will of Samuel Salter, Nov 19, 1838
