John "George" Corman, according to family history, was born Johann Jerrick Korman, of wealthy parents, was kidnapped with two other children from the coastal city where he and his family lived in either Holland or Germany when he was about 8 years old. He was taken aboard ship, taken to Maryland a British Colony in what is now U.S.A. George was then sold to Benjamin Harrison who lived at Berkeley on the James River in Virginia. Here he remained for 15 years and found such favour in his masters sight that he was allowed to marry the latter's own daughter Sarah Harrison. During the war of the Revolution the Corman family moved first to British Kentucky then to Pennsylvania because they were "burnt out". He crossed into Canada and their arrival was in the year 1790-93. Their arrival at Saltfleet was given as 1793 but a crown deed to Lot 21, 21 Con.III is dated 1790. May have been an error in recording. His name is on the assessment role of 1803. [S831]
