Three brothers, John, Robert, and Thomas, emigrated to America from
Dartmouth, Devonshire, England in 1664. Source: 'History of Bergen and
Passaic Counties...', W. W. Clayton, pub. 1882, page 546; 'The Family
of Zaccheus Gould of Topsfield', Benjamin Apthorp Gould, pub. 1895,
page 325. Family papers dated 1892 quote the Clayton source.
Immigrated with brothers Robert & Thomas circa 1664- first went to
Long Island, then to CT, then to Elizabethtown, NJ; he was a tailor-
New Haven a guess, but he did marry in CT
lived in Southhampton, LI then moved to Elizabethtown, NJ; Married
Sarah Extell, Axtell or Axtelle in Connecticut where he lived before
LI
Robert settled in Hull, Massachusetts, Thomas in Charlestown, Mass and
John went first to in Connecticut where he married Sarah
Extell/Axtell/Estill (a note by Alice Day Smith says Milford, CT) and
was a tailor by trade. From CT he moved to Long Island, where he lived
a few years, and then removed about 1694 to Elizabeth(town), NJ. They
had six children.
Lockward's 'Puritan Heritage' indicates he died at 91 in 1715, making
him born in 1624. Torrey's 'New England Marriages Before 1700' lists
their marriage and first child born 1680 CT/LI/Elizabeth, NJ.
John came to Elizabethtown (Elizabeth, Union County, NJ) from CT
about. 1664. He moved to Horseneck (Caldwell, Essex County, NJ) at age
20. Joseph's will is #106776, in 1811 (source unknown.)

Michael D. Lindsey's Confederate sevice record describes him as 5' 11 3/4" in height, with blue eyes and light hair. He was a first lieutenant of Co. K of the Louisiana Crescent Regiment under General Mouton. In 1863, this regiment captured the Federal gunboat Queen of the West and began to operate it as a Confederate gunboat on the Atchafalaya River. On 14 Apr. 1863, the boat was set afire by Yankee fire. The pension application of Michael Lindsey's widow, Sarah Myers Lindsey, states that he never recovered from the exposure he suffered in this incident (his brother Thomas, who was also aboard the Queen of the West, died in the incident). The application contains an affidavit from a fellow soldier describing Michael Lindsey as a gallant soldier and good officer.
