Spelling of middle name "Tower" changed to "Towar" per Kelly Conrad:

Kelly Conrad of Denver writes: I descend from Enoch and Margaret (Towar) Barton through their son Gilbert Barton (1801-1891). Gilbert's older sister Isabella married Thomas Anderson who, in turn, were the parents of Margaret Towar Anderson.

The middle name (Tower) you're showing for Margaret is a very serious mis- spelling. You see, Margaret's family came from the Edinburgh, Scotland area. Those Scots had a very long history in that area before Margaret Towar, her mom, and all her sibling came to the U.S.

Centuries of history, in fact.

There doesn't appear to be much question that the English Tower families and the Scottish Towar clan share a common ancestry, but the common link is way back. Because the Scots Towar family (the name is de Touris, in latin) has a separate history and concommittant development of their surname, the Scots spelling 'evolved' to Towar, whilst the name for their poorer English 'evolved' to Tower.

If you investigate the topic in depth as I have you will clearly see that the english who wrote the name heard the same sound but used the spelling Tower which clearly is not the Scots spelling.

The old Barton Bible clearly shows "Towar" since this was the spelling gggg grandma Margaret (Towar) Barton used.
