Charles Ward of Yazoo City had a great aunt, Bessie Winstead who married CHARLES MARSHALL WINSTEAD late in his life. She was a young widow. Mr. Ward heard much about the Winstead Family. He described how JOHN HENRY WINSTEAD, so crippled by the War, took up photography at some point in his life. It was said that J. H. W. would drive his buggy all over the county, taking pictures as business was available. Mr. Ward produced a photo of someone and said "Mr. John Winstead took that picture. On occasion he would take photos without ever getting out of his buggy."
His obituary, in 1939, read as follows: .......surviving are four daughters: Mrs. James Clunan of Bentonia, Mrs. Alice Prestredge, Yazoo City, Mrs. Emma Nolan, Rt. 3, and Mrs. Josie Gerrard, Jackson. two sons: A. R. Winstead, Bentonia and J. W. Winstead, Crowley, LA, and two brothers B. F. Winstead of Eden and E. G. Winstead of Rt. 2, 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Cpl. in Company F, 18th Mississippi Inf, CSA from April 1861 thru May 6, 1864
