Nephew - Father Or Mother May Have Been A PITTS
Abner's mother is thought to be a Pitts and died when he was very young. His uncle Jesse raised him as one of his own children and did not tell him he was his uncle until he was grown. Abner's father may have been named Abner Harrison. Jesse may have changed his name from Pitts to Harrison since Jesse's wife Rachel had a brother named Abner who died in December 1807. However, the late D.S. Harrison in his correspondence says "I have a faint recollection of having seen the record of a Harrison marrying a Pitts, and if my recollection is correct, that Harrison's name was Abner. I also think that he was a brother of Jesse Harrison." [S67]
