Mother: Ann THOMAS |
"In 1862, 36 years after the death of her husband, Charlotte was living with her son Robert Harrison at "Mount Pleasant" on the old Stage Road, when fighting became imminent with the approach of Federal troops. She was placed on a mattress (being old and crippled with arthritis) and drived through the Confederate lines by her grandson, William Benjamin Harrison, a Confederate cavalryman, to the home of her daughter Rebecca (Harrison) Peebles in Dinwiddie County, south of Petersburg) where she died soon afterwards and was buried in the Peebles plot in Old Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg."
