William Benjamin attended the University of Nashville and obtained his medical degree.
He was assistant surgeon for the 10th Arkansas Infantry during the Civil War.
He moved to Arkansas with one brother, who is unknown.
William Benjamin was appointed Postmaster of Eglantine, Arkansas (most of this community is now located under Greers Ferry Lake, Cleburne and Van Buren counties, Arkansas). What portion is still dry land is the Fairfield Bay, Arkansas location.
He was commissioned as medical examiner for Cleburne County by the Quorum Court of Cleburne County, Arkansas when the county was formed in 1883 from parts of Van Buren, White and Independence counties.
William applied for a pension in 1911 for military service, from the state of Arkansas. The pension was allowed and filed in the auditor's office.
