Melinda Stone is said to have been a cousin of Chief Justice Stone of AL.
Gandrud, Alabama Records, vol. 83, p. 3 has a Bio of George W. Stone (from Garrett's Public Men in Alabama, p. 347). Which says he was a Tennessean who settled in Talladega about 1835, where he was a lawyer, and became a judge, eventually being elected an Assoc. Chief Justice of the Supreme court in 1855, a position which he was holding in 1872, the date the bio seems to have been written. His wife, whom he married in 1866, was Mrs. Wright, a daughter of Mrs. Harrison, former of Lowndes.
Another Bio in the same Gandrud, vol. p. 6, George W. Stone is described as Washington Stone, b 24 oct 1811 in Bedford Co. VA, admitted to the bar in Lincoln Co. TN and moved to Talladega, AL in 1834. He married 1st Mary Gillespie on 16 Dec 1834 in Franklin, TN and 2nd Emily Moore, 4 Sep 1849, Lowndes Co. AL and 3rd Mrs. Mary E. Harrison Wright, d/o of Paschal and Elizabeth Phillips harrison of GA. (Paschal Harrison represented Monroe co. AL in the AL House1819-25).
