Notes

Named for his great uncle Ira P. Hobbs.

On Jan 2, 1862 Ira enlisted in the Confederacy at Henderson TX as Sgt. Major of Co. E, 14th Regiment, Texas Calvary. His unit was surrendered with the forces of Lieut. Gen. R. Taylor and he was paroled at Meridian, Miss. on May 9, 1865. He opened a drug store as a registered pharmacist in Sulfur Spings. Though a cousin of Benjamin Harrison, he dissolved all family ties after the Ohio Harrisons joined the Union army. [S74]
