Harrison came to AL in 1818, landing in Huntsville, where he assisted in surveying the lands around Huntsville, near which he located and lived until his death. He was a soldier of 1812 and was in the Indian War, participating in the skirmish that drove the Indians across Coosa river. According to this Bio, J.T. was a native of England, and a relative of President Benjamin Harrison. Melinda Stone is said to have been a cousin of Chief Justice Stone of AL.

The Hooter Bible: "Michael L. Hooter departed this life February 1865, aged 17 years and 11 months. He entered the Confederate Serivce and served about 8 months, and was captured by the Federals near Grand Gulf, and sent to Almira, New York at which prison he died of pneumonia. (Dates not quite correct)
Puzzle of Michael L. Hooter. This individual's name is given one way and then another. The family Bible indicates his name as MICHAEL L (B? P?) HOOTER. It shows that he entered the Confederate Service and that he died in February of 1865. Possibly that late date was when his family was informed.
The Federal Archives state that they have no Civil War record for anyone by that name. Mr. Richard Buchanan of Elmira, N. Y. indicated that the prison camp records showed that one JOHN MICHAEL HOOTER, or sometimes J. W. HOOTER, was captured near Grand Gulf, MS on August 30, 1864. He was received at Elmira on December 5, 1864, and died December 14, 1864.
According to data that Mr. Buchanan sent to me, the Yankee doctor at the prison bragged to this effect: "I am having better luck in killing Rebels than General Grant." The rate of death at Elmira was almost equal to that of Andersonville, GA. The former was in a land of plenty, and the latter in a land of starvation.
We have a photo of this young man's grave. Reading:
1283 JNO W. HOOTER, CO. A, Woods Cav, Miss. C.S.A.
US Archives show that he was sent to New Orleans, from Grand Gulf. From there he was transferred to Ship Island, Mississippi was transferred to New York on Nov 5, 1864. He was admitted to hospital at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor. He was returned to duty on Dec 4, 1864, and transferred to Elmira Military Prison.
