Samuel Lum, the first member of this family of whom we have definite information, was born about 1690, in Bridgehampton, Long Island, died in 1732-33, in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. He is said to have been a grandson of Samuel Lum, who was born in England, June 13, 1619, whose three sons Jonathan, Matthew and Samuel, Jr., emigrated to America and settled in Connecticut, from where it is also said Samuel Jr., removed to Long Island.
