To All and Singular aswell nobles and gentils as others to whome these presents shall come to be seene heard read or understoode Willm flower Esquire otherwise called Norroy principall herald and King of Armes of the east West and North partes of the realme of England from the ruer of Trent, northward Sendeth greetinge in our Lord God Everlastinge. Anciently from the beginninge the valient and vertuous actes of excellent persones haue ben comended to the worlde and posteritie with sondrey monumentes and remembrances of their good deseartes: emongst the which the chiefest and most usuall hath ben the bearinge of Segnes and tokens in Shildes called Armes being euident demonstrations and testimonies of prowesse and valour diuersly distributed accordinge to the qualities and deseartes of the persons meritinge the same, which order as it was prudently dinysed in the beginninge to stirre up and enflame the hartes of ment to the imitation of vertue;euen so hath the same ben contynue from tyme to tyme and yet is continually obserued to the intent that suche as haue don comendable seruice to their Prince or Contrey either in warr or peace may therfore receaue due honor in their lyues and also deryve the same successiuely to their ofspringe and posteritie for ever. EMONGST THE WHICH NOMBER Arthur Herrys of Llixsey in the countie of Essex Esquire third sonne of William Herrys of Southminster Esquire the sonne of John Herrys of Prittlewell in the Countie of Essex Esquire lineally descended from those of that surname in the north partes of this realme wtin my prouince & so by iust descent & prerogative of birth beinge one of the bearers of those tokens of honor from his ancestors: hath required me ye sayd Norroy to deliuer and describe unto him his sayd ancient Armes as he may lawfully use theim wthout p’iudice or offence to any other person And bicause upon searche ther is no Creaste found properly to belonmge to his ancient cote [as unto meny ther are none] he hath further desyred me to assigne unto his sayd ancient Armes a Creaste meete and lawfull to be boren. I THE SAYD NORROY of an especiall zeale & good affection boren unto ye sayd Arthure Herrys for his vertues to me well known haue condiscended to his request & by the power & authoritie to me comitted by letters patent under ye greate Seale of England haue assigned giuen & granted unto ye sayd Arthure Herrys for his Creast on the heaulme a Stagges heaad losengy coupppe siluer & gules horned gold situate on a wreathe of gold & azure mantelled gules doubled siluer which togither wt ye sayd ancient Armes viz: the field gold on a bend engreyled azure three cinquefoiles of ye field more playnly appereth depicted in ye margine herrof WHICH CREAST togither wt ye said ancient Armes & every parte & parcell therof I the sayd Norroy King of Armes by power & authoritie aforesayd do by these presentes give & graunt retifie & confirme unto the sayd Arthrue Herrys to his ofspringe & to all the ofspringe and posteritie of ye said John Herrys for euer. He euer herafter wt their due differences accordinge unto ye law of Armes in shield cote armure penon seale hatchement or otherwise at his & their libertie and pleasure wuthout th’impediment lett or interruption of any person or persons. IN WITNESS WHEROF I the said Norroy Kinge of Armes haue heerunto subscribed my name & sett to ye seale of mine office the xxixth day of Nouember In the yere of our Lord God MCCCCClxxviij and in the xxj yere of the reigne of our most gracious souueereigne Lady Queene Elizabeth, &c.
