Descendants of Timothy Harney

Timothy HARNEY patented a parcel of land on 16 July 1696. This land consisted of 240 acres in Baltimore 100, which he called "Timothy's Choice".   Deed records show that after Timothy's death, the land remained in the possession of his widow.  It was passed along to their son Thomas Harney (I); and in turn, to their grandson, Thomas Harney (II).

Thomas HARNEY, (I), who was born in 1686, married Miss SELBY. She is likely one of the daughters of their neighbors in the Baltimore 100, either Daniel SELBY or his brother.  Thomas HARNEY and Miss SELBY had two children born in the Baltimore 100, Somerset County, which later became part of Worcester County, Maryland, when this county was formed in 1742.  Their children were: Thomas HARNEY (II) and Ann HARNEY.

Ann HARNEY married Frances WHARTON, in St. Martin's Protestant Episcopal Church, on 4 April 173- (the last digit of the church records was omitted).  Their children are: Joseph, b. 30 May 173-; John b. 16 Mar 173-; Frances, b.27 Dec 17--; Harney, b.25 Feb 174-; Ann b.11 Oct 174-; and Sarah WHARTON, b.24 Mar 175-. (From church records).

Thomas HARNEY (II), the brother of Ann (HARNEY) WHARTON, above, was also a member of St. Martin's Church, and was elected Inspector for the Baltimore warehouse on the Indian River from 1756 through 1761.  It is he who inherited the parcel of land called "Timothy's Choice."
On 13 Feb 1775, Thomas HARNEY with wife Hannah HARNEY sold to Noah COLLINS 132 acres of the parcels called "Timothy's Choice", "Puzzle", and "Friendship".  In his will Thomas Harney left one shilling each to his children Selby, Mary WISE, Mills, Jenethan, Joshua, Hannah TAYLOR, Nancy WEST, and Sary SHANKLIN.  To his son Thomas he left "all my land and a plantation that I now live on".  Thomas was sole Executor of the will.  The will was written on 19 Feb 1790, and probated 26 Apr 1796, in Sussex Co. Delaware.

QUESTION:  Who are the parents of Timothy Harney?
ANSWER:   There were several Harney families living in the area when Timothy was born.  Records have not yet been found that would prove his parentage.
This is one puzzle I plan to solve when I retire, and can devote more time to this research.
