William Ray

William Ray was born in probably N.C. where his father Zachariah Ray is shown on 1790 Tax lists.  Zachariah moved to Kentucky Garrard Co. in 1792. His mother’s name was Mary

Some researchers have her as Mary Benge but I have found no proof so far of this. His father  Zachariah was Sheriff of Garrard Co. Kentucky 1811-1815 and was also Justice of the Peace. William married Nancy Allegre daughter of Giles Allegre and Lucy Alverson in Garrard Co. Kentucky on May 29, 1808 .William Ray left Garrard Co. after 1830 and lived for a few years in Lincoln Co. Kentucky He left Kentucky for Chariton Co. Missouri in about 1838 He is on the 1840 Census of  Chariton Co. Missouri.Nancy died here sometime after the1840 but before 1849. William himself died August 13, 1849. William and Nacy’s daughters remained in Chariton with their husbands but sons Willis and Zachariah moved a short distance away into Linn co.The youngest sons Andrew Jackson and James D. Ray remained in Chariton and lived with their older sisters after their parents deaths

7. Sarah Ann Ray born abt ? married Benjamin Singleton (brother of William Riley Singelton) died before 1849

8. Martha Jane Ray born abt. ? married Jordan Williams

9. Andrew Jackson Ray born abt 1821 married Rebecca Cupp

10. James D. Ray b. April 1833 married Eliza Jane Davolt
