Giles Family
After much research in the birth, death and census records of Ontario ,I have pieced together the Giles family .I still cannot find them in the 1860 census living in the Arthur area where Jane Giles remarried and her daughters married.
Jane must have come to Canada after her husbands death in Ireland , probably 1856 or 1857.daughter Deborah's death record gives her length of time in the country as 66 years ,this calculates to 1854 . Another daughter' census record gives the date as 1855
Family history had it that James Giles died in Castleisland Ireland and is buried in the crypt of the Presbytarian Church there. (1) I checked into this family story and found that the Giles had been schoolmaster and mistress of the National School in Castleisland,County Kerry , so the family story probably is true . Jane Giles maiden name was Jephson , there was a Jephson family that came to Ireland from England in the 1500's they were landowners

Mrs. Proctor (sr?) mother of Mrs. Lucius Adams of this village, after a short but severe illness died last Thursday. She was first taken down with a slight attack of heart trouble, which later turned to congestion of the brain and notwithstanding the fact that everything that medical skill could suggest was done for her, she gradually grew worse and weaker until the end came which brought great relief. the funeral on Saturday morning was very largely attended .the remains being interred in Victoria Cemetery Drayton.

An article from the Mount Forest Confederate newspaper, dated Tuesday, 4 April, 1876 reads:
"Magistrates Court. -A court composed of seven J.P.'s was convened on Wednesday last, in Moorefield, upon a complaint, laid by Nelson and Hiram McKague, charging James and Emily McKague with beating and otherwise abusing one of Miss Rye's "waifs," named Lizzie Robinson, about 13 years old. The decision of the court was that Emily McKague pay a fine of $1, and costs $14.45-$15.45, besides the expense of six witnesses which she had present. The man James McKague, was acquitted. The child was taken away by Constable House to Miss Rye's agent, here, S. Smith, Esq., in whose charge she was left. Since then the girl has been given for keeping to Mr. John Avery, Bosworth, upon the recommendation of the constable."
Note: Nelson and Hiram McKague were brothers of the accused James McKague.
The McKague farm was apparently the second unsuccessful placement for Elizabeth as reflected in the this 1875 Inspector's report:
Elizabeth Robinson age 10, Female, Ship SS Sarmatian, sailing dates 1874 Jun 4 - Jun 15 1875.

On the 1901 census Deborah Jane Giles Reynolds is still living in Harriston, Minto ,Wellington Co. Ontario with her youngest daughter Ida M. Reynolds who is listed as a schoolteacher, Deborah gives her year of entry to Canada as 1855. Since her mother remarried in 1861 we can probably assume her father James Giles died between 1855 and 1860.There is no evidence of him so we could also assume he died before they left Ireland. There is no record of a will for James Giles.
Margaret Alenza Giles was the daughter of James Giles and unknown. She had lived in Arthur , Wellington Ontario before her marriage to Henry Proctor.
She was born in Ireland February 1841. She married Henry Proctor
She had 2 known sisters , Emily who was born 1847, she married James McKague, November 02, 1865 in Wellington Ontario
