                                                     Generation 4-Henry Proctor

Henry was born on June 16, 1869 in Drayton, Ontario to Henry Proctor and his wife Margaret Giles. He was known to the family as Harry. Harry married Olivia Helen Gibson daughter of William Gibson and Helen Debeck on May 22, 1894 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. He gives his occupation as a druggist on his marriage certificate. It is not known what year he came to B.C. or where he was working. He took his new wife to Toronto shortly after the marriage and their first child Henry Gibson Proctor was born there on June 19, 1895 followed the next year by Vera Violetta on October 08, 1896.

By 1900 they were living in Pinewood, Rainy River Ontario with 3 children Alfred Douglas Proctor had been born on April 01, 1899. In a letter to a friend in Nanaimo Olivia states that Harry was farming. They had 3 more children here a son William Howard who passed away as a baby and daughters Nellie Mae and Edris. The children all went to school across the border in Minnesota, most likely boarding school.

He was demobilized on the 19 day of Aug .1919 (C.F.C. was Canadian Forestry Corps. )  Henry’s wife Olivia had returned to Nanaimo B.C., her hometown, with the younger children while Henry was overseas. Their oldest son Henry Gibson Proctor had also enlisted and had served overseas for 5 years .

The younger  Henry suffered a great deal in his service and was wounded several times and suffered a great deal with his physical and mental health during his years overseas. Both father and son returned to Nanaimo to the rest of the family in 1919 .

Sometime after 1920 Henry left the family. We know he was there in 1920 as his name appears on the 1920 voters list .The details of his leaving  are unknown

Olivia took the children to live in Olympia Wa. to live with her sister. She opened a shop where she sold fancy work ,embroidered linens etc. She did beautiful work. Their son Alfred Douglas remained in Nanaimo .. We don’t know for sure how long Olivia lived in Wa. state  In 1931 Olivia inherited a house on Rosehill Avenue in Nanaimo from her foster mother Ann Summerhayes . She was living in Nanaimo after 1931.

Olivia succumbed to her heart problems 10 years later .She died on August  9 , 1941 at the age of 65

“The Major” Henry Proctor himself passed away a few years after this of a stroke He had been suffering high blood pressure and heart Disease for a few years. He was 76 years old at the time of his death. No will or probate was found for either Henry or Olivia . More Pictures of Henry's Family
