The Hamels Family tree has been reconstructed by family members on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. If you would like a copy of the present datam please write to us! Hamels family members have lived in Belgium, Netherlands, United States, Canada and Prussia for over hundreds of years.
Dr.John Hamels of the USA (write to John) and Dr. Michel Hamels of Belgium (write to Michel) have teamed up to reconnect the family branches that stretch
back to over 400 years.

Michel of Belgium has provided us with some very interesting research from approximately 440 years ago. Click here to read a wonderful story that tells of Josine Hamels (1560?-1630,pictured above, and gives us an insight into life in the 1580s! Josine Hamels We do not have a clear relationship with Josine to our current family tree at this time. Our "certified" story begins with the marriage of Daniel Hamels in a little village, Neerheylissm, (See picture of the "Yellow Farm" where Daniel was first known to have settled), in central Belgium where he married Elisabeth Tibaut on April 15, 1690. Visit Modern day Neerheylissem (Helecine)
We are looking for family members of the past and present. Much of our work has been based on the printed work of Ed. H. Joseph Hamels, "La Famille Hamels: 1636-1955" (1956). To view our "family tree branches" please go to the website listed below. Please keep in mind that these are main branches and we have yet to connect them all together but we grow closer each day.
From time to time I will post new items here for your consideration.

Well it seems that the Dutch Hamels have breathed new life into our web site! As the Americans know that Cole Hamels, California clan, pitched in the World Series for the his baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies. Although his team wasn't able to defeat the New York Yankees after 6 games we are still proud to see "Hamels" in bold red letters on TV!!! Keep up the good work Cole. Then, not to long ago I heard from Cole's cousin, Bryce from the Texas clan. He is now living in Alaska and shared that he got married to April, the love of his life, in May on the island of Maui. Congratulations to the newly weds and welcome to the family April! This is their photo:

My wife has pointed out to me that I have neglected to post a photo of our own "newly weds", Justin and Brittany. Now that it's been over one year since they were married, I am finally posting a favorite family shot of our son Justin, his wife Brittany and our grand-daughter Kyla! Very good looking family!!! ~ Best wishes/Groetjes, John

If you have been looking at our guestbook lately,it looks like it's been invaded by some crazed internet lunatic. For some reason we are getting spam into our guestbook which has nothing to do with our family web site. I check it from time to time and then spend 10 minutes removing these nuisance entries. If you are thinking about leaving a message please do so! I will clean things up periodically but don't hesitate to write. I will preserve your message. I have contacted the webmaster and they are working on the problem. I guess other sites are experiening similar problems. Other than that I hope you are having a great summer. It's a bit rainy and cool here this July. We are hoping for a warmer August!!! ~ Cheers, JohnJuly 8, 2009
Today there was a posting in our guestbook that was interesting although I removed it! It was a direct letter to Cole Hamels, our famous baseball playing relative. The writer expressed admiration and affection for Cole as well as leaving a phone number.June 18, 2009
Here are some photos from my visit to our family in the Netherlands! First photo is Cor, Melanie and me at Cor's home. The second photo is a group shot of Cor, his wife Christa, and their daughters Nina and Katinka. The third photo is a typical scene of the beautiful city of Dordrecht in February. The last photo is a scene of the windmills near Dordrect. Our time together was short but Cor was a great tour guide and host! Christa and the girls were great to be with and I enjoyed visiting with Melanie and her family as well. Most Hamels here in the USA don't know this but there are A LOT of Hamels in Dordrecht! Many of them came to a party that I was invited to and they were just wonderful people. I hope that you enjoy these shots. It was difficult to pick just a few since there were so many great scenes from the area to show you!!! ~ John

Hello/Hallo everyone! I haven't posted anything in some time since I have been pretty busy doing interim work but I am now retired again and hope to post some new info soon. Coming soon I will put up a few fotos from the time I visited Cor and his family and perhaps a couple of shots from the beautiful city of Dordrecht, NE. Happy Mothers' Day to all of our Hamels ladies and thank you for putting up with our universally unique personalities and family traits!!! Best wishes/Groetjes, ~ John, Jean, JohanJanauary 18, 2009
Stefaan Hamels of BE, has sent over some new information about many of our ancestors who lived in the Neerheylissem and Esemaal villages. It is very clear that they Hamels clan lived and died in both communities for many years. This is the first time that we have seen the clear connection with the two villages. It is also interesting to note that many of them were farmers and then their children eventually moved to other occupations. Thank you Stefaan for this reseach! We look forward to hearning more!!! ~ Groetjes, JohnDecember 31, 2008
It's the last day of the year and I have great news! Stefaan and his father have connected with us and is beginning to send us history and photos from his Hamels branch in Belgium. You will find Stefaan and his immediate family as part of the Hamels III family tree. You can find it by clicking on the Hamels trees down below. Here is a story from Stefaan about the marriage of his Uncle Gaston to his Aunt Elisabeth. We tried to post the photo on this main page but ran into some technical difficulty! By clicking on the underlined words that follow you will see the photo: The marriage of Gaston and Elisabeth Hamels 1946 Stefaan describes the scene as follows:December 14, 2008
For those of you who are more comfortable in contacting a Hamels family member in the Netherlands and in your mother language of Dutch, Cor Hamels has agreed to be our family contact. You may email him at: c.hamels@caiway.nlNovember 1, 2008
Without any doubt in my mind, Cole Hamels has become the most famous Hamels family member in the world at this time. Cole, of the Dutch Hamels line, was named as the Most Valuable Player in this year's World Series of Baseball. This is equivalent to winning the World Cup in Soccer or the Super Bowl in Football. He is still young and has a bright future ahead of him. Just "google" his name and thousands of hits come up. Well done, Cole!!! ~ John

Below is a photo taken by my brother Bob while we were all on a cruise ship touring the Inner Passage of Southern Alaska. At his point we were about 1000 miles north of Seatle, Washington. Much like the Grand Canyon, Alaska's beauty and peacefulness is very difficult to put into words. Don't you think that Barb and I look like National Geographic explorers??!?!?!? ~ John

Cor Hamels and his family, from the Netherlands, recently vacationed in the country of Turkey. Here is a photo of Cor posing in the ruins of an ancient site. The view is gorgeous and Cor tells me that the beaches are pure white and very unusual. If you have an idea to travel to Turkey it might not be a bad idea to contact Cor for some travel suggestions! ~John

Spring has finally come to the eastern seaboard of the USA. The flowers are in full bloom and many of the birds have already returned to our feeder here in NY. Haven't heard from too many folks lately. Cor is busy running in Marathons in Europe. My Dad is soon to be 85 years old on May 31!!! He doesn't look a day over 60. I just finished a 2 month position as Acting Superintendent and I have now returned to the world of retirement for a little while! Send photos or stories. We would all like to enjoy them! ~JohnFebruary 25, 2008
Well we can almost smell spring here in the states and that usually means baseball season is coming up soon. At one time I posted a photo of our most popular Hamels - Cole Hamels. He has been pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies and is quite the heart throb of many young girls here! Just google our name and up comes Cole! I think you'll find me after about 3000 sites...oh well, I guess we all can't be tall, athletic and handsome! Here is a photo of Cole for your viewing enjoyment. He is quite the pitcher and we watch him play on TV whenever we can pick up one of his games. ~ John

OK this is going to look weird but I lost parts of 2 years from this web site but I was able to retrieve the first 6 years!!! Thank God and the Rootsweb folks!!! They were able to send me to a web site that actually archived this web site for the last few years. So I was able to get this much. Nonetheless, lesson learned for this web master!!!!!!!! I will spend the next few weeks putting some photos back up if I can remember who and will start a new series of notations as time goes by. Luckily our counter and guest book appears to be in good working order. So please keep coming back and drop a line in our guestbook or send me an email! Thanks for your patience. ~ John3/20/05
It's Spring! Winter is officially over and the birds of many varieties have returned to our bird feeder with a silent invitation! It was a rather cold winter here in Ripley but not too much snow when one compares the past few winters!!! This web site has had a lot of visitors but not much to report in any news from the ever quiet Hamels clan from around the world. Enjoy the warmer weather and don't hestiate to write to us regardless of your language or spelling skills! ~ John11/27/04
Here is a photo of Cor Hamels of the Netherlands that I almost forgot to post! Cor was running in a marathon as he often does when the weather is warmer. The country side is absolutely gorgeous. Good luck Cor! ~ John

For security reasons, I didn't post the fact that Barb and I were in Germany and Belgium for 2 weeks in October! We got to visit with our oldest son Scott and his family in Germany. And guess where we went? To Belgium of course and had another mini reunion with our dear cousins Michel, Martine, Fanny and Nicolas Hamels of Leuven, who as always are gracious hosts and made us feel welcome! Merci!!! Then in my usual manner I thought that it would be nice to meet yet another Hamels so below I would like to introduce you to Edwin and Sonja Hamels of Mechelen! We are not sure how we are related but there is enough evidence that leads me to believe that Edwin is connected through the Antwerp connection. If you know my father and met Edwin you would see a GREAT resemblance! Once again we are preparing for Thanksgiving here in the USA. But around the world we are thankful for the abilty to stay connected to our family across the ocean and for Hamels now in 4 continents. Please continue to send us information about your families and history and we will include it here. Presently I am working on a little mystery about the Hamels mansion in England. A gentleman in the Nethelands has a photo album of pictures from the Hamels Mansion in the 1920s. If we find anything connected to the family, I will post asap. At this point, I believe that the name Hamels and our family name may be just a coincidence. Nonetheless, until we rule it out, we may have some connection back to England... Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to Edwin and Sonja below!!! ~ John

Late breaking news!!! Hamels are found "down under"!!!If you go to our guest book you can read a message from Paul Hamels of AUSTRALIA. His family line is from Tilburg, Netherlands. Today is a special day in the USA. It is Memorial Day. A day in which we remember and honor all of our service men and women who served their country. It is also my Dad's 81st birthday. I believe that he is the oldest male Hamels in North America. Below you can see his picture that is posted at a special on line website for WWII service men and women. Happy Spring! Here in the USA it's finally getting warm again and the song birds have returned. It was a long hard winter here along Lake Erie. There is not too much to report lately. We did get an inquiry from Joanne of Canada who is following the name HAMER. If anyone has any info on this name could you pass it along to me? Keep in mind that at one time Hamels became Hamers then back to Hamels. Ask Michel, he can explain it to you! By checking the guest counter it appears that we are still getting regular visits from many people. Don't hestiate to leave a message in our Guest book below or drop us an email.More later! ~ John3/27/04

It appears that a lot of folks are visiting our web site but are not leaving us any messages! Please do not be shy. You can leave messages in your mother language. We can translate French, Dutch, Flemish and German! Most recently Cor Hamels has uncovered a large group of Hamels from the Netherlands who don't seem to be connected to any known branch that we have today. If you have any Hamels names in your bibles or family history, please let us know what you know. Every little piece of information is a part of the bigger story of our wonderful family history. If you are from the Netherlands and want to contact Cor here is his email address: Cor Hamels of the Netherlands2/1/04
Today in the USA we celebrate a strange holiday called the Super Bowl! Families gather together with food and beverages and cheer for their favorite football team. The losers go away mad but hopeful that next year their team will win. The winners enjoy a brief sense of success only to start the whole process again in six months. What a silly holiday of sorts! Below and more importantly is a pretty neat picture of three Hamels who dared to take their families out into the cold and meet in Dusseldorf, Germany this past December. I look like a vampire with my red eyes. Michel of Belgium, left, was in deep discussion about our family history and Cor Hamels, middle, was able to provide us with Hamels history from his part of the Netherlands. Since this meeting of great families and minds, Els Hamels of Tilburg, Netherlands has joined forces with Cor and we hope to have a reunited Dutch Hamels history in the very near future. I am most hopeful that during this process we will be able to connect the Hamels of Texas/California/Florida back to this large Dutch branch and then in the end tie the Belgian and Dutch branches back to one main tree. As always, if you are interested and daring, send me an e-mail, opinions, family history, photos (fotos) and we will add them to the ever-growing wealth of information that we are discovering about our Hamels Family heritage!

Well it's taken me about five different attempts to place a photo from our re-union in Dusseldorf. So here it is!
1/17/04
I am most pleased to announce a major breakthrough with the re-connecting of the HAMELS family tree!!! Cornelis Hamels of Dordrecht, Netherlands and I have been able to do parallel research of Hamels who came from the Netherlands. After careful comparisons we discovered that a particular Johannes Hamels was indeed the same man who also is in the family tree of Els and Theo Hamels of Tilburg, Netherlands! Therfore, if you visit this page on our site Hamels Family Tree of the Netherlands you will see a merged tree branch of two large Hamels clans from the Netherlands dating back to the mid-1700's. An interesting point to remember that per the Tilburg family branch their Hamels line begins in Belgium which through more research I am quite convinced that we will re-connect all of the Hamels in Belgiun and the Netherlands in due time!!! If you are reading this and haven't sent in some tidbit of information about your family please do so. Our work is fun and very interesting. The smallest clue or piece of information has helped us make connections. Don't be shy!!! ~John1/04/04
Happy New Year to Hamels' family members around the world!!! Recently Barb, Steph and I visited our oldest son Scott, his wife Luisa and their son Justin in Germany. Since it isn't too far from other countries I was able to organize a mini-reunion of Hamels from Belgium, the Netherlands, USA and Germany!!! Cor Hamels of Dordrecht and his lovely family joined us all in Dusseldorf. Although it was somewhat hectic we still were able to make connections and learn more about each other.Cor gave me some photos of his relatives and I have inserted some below under message 12/22/02. See if you see anyone there who you recognize! Michel & Martine Hamels of Leuven and their family (Fanny & Nicolas) joined us in Dusseldorf as well. Our great friends Rudolf and Lioba Kaspari accompanied us and met our family members. I hope to have more pictures to share as time goes by. Keep the emails and research results coming. With a little more effort we should have connetions between the Netherlands and Texas and the Netherlands and Belgium/USA. If you haven't checked in lately please drop us a note and say hello! ~ John12/07/03
Thanksgiving has come and gone and I gained very little weight!!! The Christams Holidays are now just 18 days away and we are all making preparations for gift giving and parties here in the USA. Many years ago I planted evergreen trees (blue spruce and Scotch pine) about our property here Ripley. Each year we go in search of the perfect tree, cut it down and bring it into the house for decorating. It takes the whole family to work on this project. Justin and I usually are the wood cutters. Justin then puts on the electric lights. Barb and Steph put on the decorations. If the older boys are home they help out. As for me, I make sure that the tree remains standing straight and keep it watered. I have been known to say a few explicatives when the tree has fallen during the night!!! Check back to this site after the holidays becasue I hope to have some interesting international Hamels news. I can't tell you now since it's top secret! Nonetheless, we all wish our Hamels' families over the world Peace and Happiness this coming Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year!!!11/27/03
The holidays began at 12 a.m. this morning in the USA! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who pass this way!!! Here in the US, Thanksgiving is a national holiday which focuses on the opportunity to gather family and friends together and to appreciate the things we are blessed with. The holiday is based on the English Pilgrims who established themselves here and had a celebration of thanks for a good harvest and positive dealings with the American Indians. Typically an American Thanksgiving meal will be highlighted by a roasted turkey. From what I have researched there are no turkeys in Europe. Here they can be found in three different ways: in the wild (including our backyard), raised on farms and others find their way into elected government positions. Other items can be included with the turkey such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, bread stuffing and so on. In most homes dessert is pumpkin pie. My Dad is the master pie maker of the family! Feel free to leave a note about holiday activities where you live during this holiday season! ~ John11/03/03
This past weekend I received more historical information from Michel and Ivo of Leuven. By clicking on the word "Map" you will find a section in Dutch and then in English. You will also find an outline of Belgium where the HAMELS clan predominantly lived for many years! Enjoy and thank you Michel and Ivo as always. MAP ~John10/26/03
Today I am posting a collection of three photos that gives us a glimpse of what life looked like in Antwerp, Belgium. These photos are compliments of Michel of Leuven. Michel has provided us a photo of Auguste Hamels who owned the "Le Soleil" (The Sun) company which sold spirits and mineral water to the local establishments in Antwerp. Later his son Louis ran the business. Does anyone look like someone in your family album? Let us know!!! Click here to see photo: The family business in Antwerp The older gentleman in the pictures is Auguste Hamels. If you would like to know more about these photos contact Michel Hamels via email: mhamels@yahoo.com This next photo has Auguste in the back seat with his son, Louis (button down hat) in the family carriage. It's been a wet summer here and a hot one in Belgium! How unusual!!!! Greetings to all of our kin from around the world. I took a break from genealogy for the summer. There has been very little new these days. It seems we get the good stuff when the weather gets cool again and our attention moves from our yards to our computers. If you are new to our site please leave us a note in our guestbook. If you haven't been by in a while, drop a line to anyone of us. This site has lots of space and if you have something new to share we would love to hear from you. ~John5/4/03

The long awaited picture of one of our earliest ancestors, Josina Hamels, is now available for your viewing. Thanks to Michel and his scanner we all can view the excellent artwork from 1589 by Hendrik Goltzius. Take special note that there is a coat of arms on the side of the table which depicts a "ram". The ram has often been associated with the name Hamels and appears in many versions of coats of arms that have the root "Ham" in it. Click here to view Josina: Josina Hamels, 1590 The picture may appear small. If this is the case try clicking on it and you may see a prompt that will enlarge it for you. Send other announcements along to me or send me scanned photos! This is all of our heritage and history in the making!!! ~John12/22/02
Today we came a little closer in connecting the Hamels of Texas and California with those of the Netherlands! Cor Hamels of Netherlands found another important name in his family tree who may be the connection to the Hamels who came to America in the 1920s. He found his gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Andrianus Franciscus Hamels who was born in 1808/9. This name is in the Hamels line who came from the Netherlands. Please take a look at this mini-tree that I propose. If you know of the name of the missing Hamels please write to us! I have a theory that this missing Hamels could be a major link! ~ John

Well it's snowing and I had nothing better to do! We have a major league baseball player in the family tree. Here is the news article:
Phillies Sign High-School Pitcher Hamels
Aug. 23, 2002
AP
PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Philadelphia Phillies signed first-round pick
Cole Hamels Friday after two months of negotiations.
The 18-year-old left-hander will receive a $2 million signing bonus and
a college scholarship. He will report on Sept. 15 to the Phillies'
Florida Instructional League camp in Clearwater, Fla.
"It took a while, but we're very happy that we reached an agreement,"
said Marti Wolever, Phillies director of scouting. "Cole has a chance to be
a top-flight major league starter,
someone who could fit in the 1-2 slots in a rotation."
Pitching for Rancho Bernardo High School in California, Hamels was 10-0
with a 0.39 ERA this season. He struck out 130 batters in 71 1-3 innings.

Today, the day after Thanksgiving in the USA, I turned my attention to the Ellis Island Records. After a little while I realized that I had found the connection between two Dutch families, Hamels and Swagemakers. Here is a synopsis of what I found:
Adrianus F. Hamels (b.1884/5). He leaves Amsterdam, Holland in June 1917 and comes to the USA. His brother F. Hamels who lives at 739 South Fowkstreet, Boston, Mass. pays Adrianus' passage. He comes to the USA with $25 and has intentions of becoming a US citizen. His occupation is cigar maker. He is 5' 7" and has blonde hair and gray eyes. He lists Den Holder (?), Holland as his residence and that his mother W. Hamels lives at 2nd Leliedwarsstraat(?), Amsterdam.
About three years later, May 1920, Andrianus' family comes to the USA. His wife Antonia M. S.(most likely stands for Swagemakers) Hamels, housewife, comes to the USA with their three children to meet Adrainus who lived at 182 L Street South, Boston, Mass. She is 5'1" with brown hair and brown eyes. She lists H. Swagemakers at Tuinstraat 220 (?), Amsterdam, Holland as next of kin. The children are Antonia, 18 yrs., maid-servant, Blonde hair, blue eyes; Adrianus F., 16 yrs., cigar maker, Brown hair, brown eyes; Franciscus, 13 yrs., blonde hair, brown eyes; Hendricus, 10 yrs., brown hair, brown eyes.
I placed a question mark above where ever the writing was difficult to read. The important information is that these Hamels were from Amsterdam. They met Adrianus Sr.'s brother in Boston. They were cigar makers. Antonia was definitely a Swagemakers.A certain Hendrik Kalkhoven was listed with Adrianus Sr. on the ship and he too was a cigar maker. I tell you this in case that is a name that is familiar to your families.
If any of this sounds familiar or you have information to add, please let me know! Happy Holidays!

Upon the recommendation of Heidi Arno of the Smeesters clan, I am including a new page for those who are seeking information about families in Neerheylissem. I have listed the names in the census records from the work of Jean DeLand 1999, "Neerheylissen en 1776 et 1840: ses maisons, ses rues, ses habitants." If you have a specific question regarding a family I would be happy to check this reference booklet and share with you what is listed. It primarily tells on what street and in what house various families lived in the village. It lists occupations and sometimes various tidbits. Hand drawn maps were developed and are useful if you are visiting the village. Click here to check the surname list from Neerheylissem:Surnames of Neerheylissem
Enjoy! ~ John8/31/02

I have been in contact with Cornelis Hamels of Dordrecht, Holland and he has provided me a new HAMELS branch which I have never seen before!!! Click here to view Cor's family tree:
HAMELS of Dordrecht, Holland If you are interested in connecting with the Dutch Hamels, here is a very large group just waiting to be connected with more of us! Here is Cor's e -mail address if you would like to write to him: Cornelis Hamels
This is a very important break through for our family because there seems to be a lot of HAMELS in both countries and this is a possible Belgian-Dutch connection. It would be wonderful if we could figure out the missing linkage. It you have any information regarding this tree please write to me and Cor. Thank you.

Another historical event recently occurred in Niagara Falls, NY! Hamels meets Smeesters!!! Heidi Arno of the Smeesters family of Neerheylissem met with my wife and myself over dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe on Friday July 12. Although the 2 families are not related through a blood line that we are aware of, there was a one time marriage between the families which ended after 5 years, no children (see family tree). The more interesting piece of information that we shared was the fact that the Smeesters and Hamels families lived next door and down the street from each other over the course of 300+ years in Neerheylissem!
Our mutual goal is to share any information that we have stumbled across that may be of interest to each other's research. Heidi also pointed out that her family migrated long before the Hamels to the USA. Their main destination was Green Bay, WI. She has picutres and many family bits of information for those interested. If anyone has anything to add to this connection please feel free to drop a line to myself or Heidi. Thanks Heidi for taking time to meet with us and sharing your family history! - John

I always try to share any tidbits that I find with the Hamels family members. Today I found a web site that allows you to view maps in England that show Hamels Park and Hamels Lane! I certainly have no hard evidence that there is a connection with our family lineage and England but it certainly makes one wonder when you study the time frame of the Hamels Mansion and estate and where our research begins. Hope you enjoy the trip to England! Here is where you board: Hamels in England - John

Happy Spring to all! The weather here in Western New York has been at best unpredictable. In the world of genealogy things seem to be quiet lately. We have had many visitors and our cousins Sue and Michelle have recently dropped by the site and we have updated and corrected data. Whoever visits this site and sees an error please do not hesitate to contact me so that we can make corrections. That is one of the reasons for this site- to get things right for the future. There has been so many mistakes in other reports over the years about our ancestors that I have had to set straight. Let's not have someone do it for us! This is our history. Also, as the technology continues to improve please send pictures of yourself or family and I will post them here as you like. I also thought that if someone wants to post their immediate family's history or send a special story, this is a great collection place for these types of things. Hope all is well and leave us a note! - John

Our good friend Ivo has done it again! He has shared with me another several thousand Hamels relatives who date back to about 1595 with Joannes Hamers Hamels!!! We have yet learned how this tree is connected with our Daniel of the 1690s but give us a little time! Since the list is so comprehensive, it would be easier for me to hot link you to his data on World Connect. So here you go and well done Ivo! Joannes Hamels: Abt.1595 - John

Updated notes from Michel of Leuven. If you haven't been here in awhile it would be good to re-read Michel's latest thoughts on the origin of the HAMELS name in its present form. I have highlighted the new information below and we hope that you will find it most interesting. I would suggest if you are not sure of the locations of various towns that he mentions, you might visit www.mapquest.com and you will be able to see the country of Belgium in close up! As always keep the notes and ideas coming and best wishes in your family reseach! - John

The First International HAMELS gathering took place in Neerheylissem on July 22! We will be adding many new pictures and anecdotal pieces of information to this site. It will probably take Michel and me at least 2-3 months to glean the important and interesting items for you. We are both now in the possession of a most important book on the lives and houses of the early HAMELS in Neerheylissem. Therefore, if you have a specific question regarding these early HAMELS please write to us. Visit here often for new developments. John Patrick et Michel

OK...somehow you found your way to our family web site...you think that maybe your relative came from Europe and landed in New York City. Good news!!!! Here's a web site for the patient and diligent. It is the latest gift to those of us who seek their long lost relatives. It is a data base which provides some, not all yet, of the records of passengers and crew members who came through Ellis Island. I found the California and Texas Hamels who came in from Amsterdam, Holland and two Hamels from Antwerp (Marie, 1907 and Leon, 1919). Good luck. Ellis Island Records

After reading letters some of our visitors I thought that I might steer you to another excellent website. It was set up by a wonderful gentleman, Georges Picavet of Belgium. I started doing some initial inquiry through this site and have found it to be very useful if you are searching a Belgian family from his particular part of Belgium. It is worth the visit. Here it is: Belgium Roots.

I received an email from Ruth Hamels of Albersloh, Germany which is near Munster. It is not too far from the border of the Netherlands. She supplied us with another branch of Hamels. I have posted this branch on the "tree" page for your viewing. I wonder if Henry Hamels who moved to Canada from Germany could be her great-great uncle? If you see any connections, please write to me and we'll continue to put the pieces together! - John
