R. J. HERELEY AND SON
Situated at 105 South Ayer Street, the R. J. Hereley & Son Co. is a beehive
of activity collecting and shipping, by truck and railroad, some two million
bushels of grain a year.
Established by Daniel Hereley almost one hundred years ago the business has
remained within the same family and since 1910 at its present (1976) location
through three generations.
In 1920 when Daniel was killed crossing the railroad tracks the sons,
Raymond, William, Frank and Maurice carried on. Now (1976) Raymond and
Daniel, grandson of the founder, are the present owners having acquired the
business in 1965.
>From the original business of livestock, grocery and meat market, the
following transitions have developed, namely cold storage, feed and finally
grain, feed, seed and fertilizer.
R. J. Hereley & Son have always provided a good cash market for the farmers
of this area.
