Hague, Warren Co., NY
Vital Records
Date Last Updated: 01/06/2008
The town of Hague began to officially maintain birth, marriage, and death records in 1887 as required by the State Legislature (circa 1880 - see Town Clerk - Genealogy Searches for details). A few notations for vital records have been found in the town's other official records such as the Hague Town Minutes 1807 - 1821. Most vital records information for 1790-1887 must be obtained by cross-referencing other sources.
There are a number of good sources that can help establish a high probability the event occurred in the town:
US Federal and NY State census data can establish the time frame that the family resided within the town limits. The 1855 New York Census for Hague, Warren Co can be very helpful for establishing how long each person resided in the town.
The Ticonderoga Sentinel (1874 - 1950) published birth, marriage, and death notices on a regular basis. Obituaries are an outstanding source for this information. The Northern New York Library Network has placed searchable copy of many of the early newspapers of northern NY on the internet at http://news.nnyln.net/.
Various family genealogies published in the late 1800s and early 1900s often contain references gleaned from church records and family bibles that may not be readily available today.
The Births of Hague, 1800-1899 contains 389 individuals (from 116 families) most likely born in Hague. Sources are noted. The families for most of these folks can be found by linking to The Early Families of Hague and Some of Their Descendants.
