The McClanathan family came to Hague in the early 1800's from Hubbardston, MA. John's father (John McClanathan) was listed in the 1820 Federal Census for Hague. One other person was listed in the household in 1820. John may have been the single child (male, age 10-16). William McClanathan, John's older brother, was listed on the next line in the 1820 Federal Census for Hague. John was first listed in the 1830 Federal Census for Hague.

John's father served during the American Revolution in Captain Phineas Walker's detachment of guards - 7th Worcester Co. Regiment, MA.

John's mother's ancestors include John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, who were married in Plymouth, MA several years after arriving in 1620 - on the Mayflower. Her ancestors also include Thomas Rogers and his son, Joseph Rogers, both also arrived on the Mayflower in 1620.

John and Marinana (Maria) were married November 06, 1825 in Hubbardston, MA.

John and Marie had the following children:

       Lewis Burgess                 August 14, 1834 - May 23, 1910    (John C. Burgess + A. Christie Davis)

Charlotte and Lewis had no children.

           Charles F. Fish        March 14, 1850 - July 28, 1922    (Hiram Fish + Abigail Holman)

Sophia and Charles had 1 child.

            Martha Ann Lyon           February 26, 1845 - February 28, 1925

John operated the Hillside Hotel in Hague.
John and Martha had 1 child:

Edith McClanathan                    December 1886 - 1957
         Richard S. Carpenter        August 29, 1886 -  February 21, 1965     (George T. Carpenter + Carrie L. Smith)

Edith and Richard were married June 1, 1928 at the Baptist parsonage in Hague (Warren Co., NY) by the Rev. W. H. Brown. They had no children.

Delia McClanathan                 January 1841 - April 03, 1895 (Obit.)

Delia was laid to rest next to her parents in the Hague Cemetery.
