John and Louisa were married (after publication of marriage bans) October 13, 1834 by Rev. William McKillican at the Congregational Church in Hawkesbury, Prescott County, Ontario. Louisa's parents, Richard and Margaret Carkner, witnessed the ceremony.
The 1850 US Federal Census indicates the family moved to the Franklin County (NY) area shortly before the birth of their fifth child, Eliza, in 1843. The family initially settled in the town of Bangor.
John married Mary Sweet before 1870, when the US Federal Census records their combined families living in the town of Fort Covington, NY.
