John's birth was registered on October 14, 1899 as Giovanni Leopoldo Riccardo Zecchini in Dozzano, Massa Carrara, Toscana, Italy.
John emigrated to the United States with his mother on April 18, 1910. They arrived on the ship Celtic from Sorrano, Italy.
John and Julia were married on April 6, 1929 in Bronx, Bronx Co., NY. Family lore suggest that John was told he should respect the family tradition and marry a nice Italian woman. He was somewhat of a rebel so he went out and found a nice Polish (Austrian, at the time) girl instead!
