The following information
was researched by Roger HADFIELD MA, F.R.G.S; Tony BURTON and David HADFIELD
Many sources of
genealogical information refer to either Dukinfield, Dukenfield, Duckinfield and
Duckenfield - all references relate to the same location, Dukinfield. The Hadfield connection with Dukinfield
commences with Sir Thomas of Duckenfield (1422-1461). By the 1881 census there were many Hadfield
families and individuals living in some fifty separate dwellings. It is worth
noting that the words 'Dukinfield Hall' were also used to denote an area, not
just a place, particularly when used on BDM certificates. The area appears to have taken into account
Globe Square, Globe Lane, Old Hall Street, Longsden Terrace, Hopwood Street,
Hadfield Street, Croft Street, Mill Street, Platt Street and adjacent parts of
Astley and Ashton Streets.
