A Few of the Stories From My Genealogy Research

A Story from Alice Sankey about Ericka (nee Stonequist) Dahlberg

Grandma was a short round person with hair I remember as pepper and salt and oily. She was soft and huggable and generous with her hugs.  Unlike her granddaughters, she was completely fearless.

I remember her telling me about coming home alone from church quite late one night.  A young man caught up with her and asked if she was afraid.  She said “No, God will take care of me.”

He told her he had a gun.  She repeated that God would take care of her. The young man said it was dangerous for her to be out alone at night, and he walked her all the way home. She thanked him and told him she would pray for him.

I find it hard to believe, even now, but her son Roy said she later pointed out that the young man in the photograph in the paper where he was identified as a slain gangster.
