Hawkins, Sir William Amadas

Capt. William served as Governor of Plymouth; as Mayor (1567-8, 1578-9, and 1587-80). He commanded "The Griffin" against the Spanish Armada. Children of his first marriage included: William, Judith, Grace, and Clare. His son, William, sailed in the Royal Navy with Fenton in 1582; laid the foundation of the Indian Empire, went to Agra in 1608 as Ambassador at the Court of the Great Mogul. He married a daughter of Mubarik Kahn, a Christian Armenian. Children of William and Mary included Richard, Nicholas, Francis, William, Mary, Elizabeth and Frances.
