FIREMEN'S HOCKEY MATCH

------


      The Canso Fire Brigade held a hockey match in the Canso Curling Rink on Friday, February 13th. They played in rubber boots instead of skates and used a soft ball in place of a puck. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Chief Melvin Schrader. The line up was as flollows.
      Capt. M. Schrader, T.L. Kavanaugh, E.P. White, M.A. Blenkhorn, C. Goodwin, Wm. T. O'Brien, Harry Pembroke, Dave Pembroke, Leo Manuel, E.A. Cousins, B.G. Matthews, Elias George, A.C. Cameron, Ed. Roberts, Ed. Pembroke, Reg. Horton.

      Clayton Kinney, who was at home for a few days with sore throat has returned to school.
      Allen Kinney has started sawing the summer's wood along the Strait of Canso.
      G. Burns was in Steep Creek on Tuesday.
      W. McPherson, Boylston, passed through here enroute to Mulgrave on Wednesday.
      Mrs. Gilbert Morrison and son were the guests of Mrs. W.J. Hayden on Friday afternoon.
      The St. James sewing Guild was entertained at the home of Mrs. George Hayden on Thursday evening.

      A number of the young folks attended the card party at Port Felix on Friday evening.
      Mr. and Mrs. Abe George visited Mrs. Wm. Fraser on Sunday evening.
      Mrs. Spurgeon Snow has returned home from Cole Harbour where she spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Munroe.
      Miss Mary Malone and Neta Fraser visited Mrs. Wm. Lawler on Sunday evening.
      Mr. Henry Spears spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Abe George.

COOK'S COVE

      Miss Mae Chesney who has been confined to her home for the past week, is able to attend school again.
      Sewing circle was held at the home of Mrs. Frank Cook on Friday evening.
      William Jones, who has been ill for the past month with pneumonia, is speedily recovering.
      There was no service held in the Baptist Church here on Tuesday evening, due to a storm.
      Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gamble on the birth of a son.
      Miss Mae MacChesney, who is attending school in Guysboro, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David MacChesney.


Cook's Cove news, Continued.....


      Reg Cooke, who has been visiting friends in Halifax this past week, has returned to his home here.
      Miss Georgina Murray, who is attending High School in Guysboro, spent the week-end at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. G.W. Jones.
      Cecil Turner has resigned his position with the C.N.R. here, and has accepted a position with Cunningham Brothers, Guysboro.
      Austin Taylor who is working at Lawlor's Lake, spent the week-end at the home of his mother, Mrs. Victorea Taylor.
      Mrs. Fred Burnett who has been visiting in New Glasgow, for the past week, has returned to her home here.
      Perry Sangster, who has been working at his camp at Long Lake, spent the week-end at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Parker Sangster.
      Miss Annie Goggarty is visiting in Guysboro, the guest of Mrs. Clifford Johnson.
      Mrs. Rae Cunningham, of Guysboro, was the guest of Mrs. E. Mabel Loomis on Monday afternoon.
      The second meeting of the Cook's Cove Mission band was held in Cook's Cove Methodist Church here this past Sunday.
      Mrs. Homer Lumsden was the guest of Mrs. E. Mabel Loomis on Monday afternoon.
      Harry Taylor, who has been working at the camp at Long Lake, spent the week-end at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Taylor.

OBITUARY
MRS. MARY BIGSBY



      Guysboro - At the residence of her brother, Campbell Peart, there passed away on the 30th of December 1930, a much beloved and highly respected citizen in the person of Mrs. Mary Bigsby.
      She had been a resident of Guysboro for many years. She retained all her faculties up to the very last, falling asleep quietly and peacefully, trusting in Jesus, her Saviour and Lord.
      Mrs. Bigsby was a rare Christian character of strong faith, unswerving loyalty to all that was highest and best.
      She was a devoted member of the Anglican Church. Her funeral which was largely attended took place at Guysboro, December 31st., Rev. D. Edwards officiating at the house and at the grave.
      she was buried in the old cemetery, Guysboro. She lived to a ripe old age, being 95 years.
