Early St. John's Harris families:
- Minister John Harris: Born in Wales abt 1755, died in St. John's in 1810 buried on the Cathedral grounds. Married to Phoebe. Four daughters, (daughter Jane Hester was baptized in St. John's May 31, 1796) one son, William. William was born 1777, died 1854. Family lived in Ferryland before moving to St. John's. William's son was also called William - he was a carpenter/contractor lived on Prescott St - Monkstown Rd., 1825-1820. This William's son was the Hon. John Harris *1860-1916. He was a commission Merchant/Govt. John's daughter was Mary.
- 1780: Thomas Harris (boatkeeper) and Eizabeth has their son Thomas baptized. This son Thomas married Catherine Nurse November 21, 1804. The son Thomas died 1814. Children were Elizabeth Sept. 2, 1805, Sarah born Feb. 1, 1813
- 1790's Nicholas Gill (chief magistrate of St. John's) - employee of Nicholas was John Harris. John married Sarah, Nicholas Gill's daughter. Sarah Harris died November 13, 1834, age 76. John and Sarah named their children Nicholas Gill Harris and Sarah Gill Harris, Jane Gill Harris, and Mary Anne Gill Harris . Nicholas Gill Harris died January, 1864, age 64.
