The Lechmeres of Hanley Castle"On a rising bank not far from the River Severn, in the parish of Hanley-Castle, in the county of Worcester, is a venerable house, the original seat of the ancient family of Lechmere, now called Severn-End, but formerly Lechmere's Place, or Lechmere's Field, a site said to have been in their possession from very early times, and to have been given, so says Tradition, by King William the Conqueror to the ancestor of this family."
