My Strange Family
VA - SC - AL - TX

Until I started tracing my Strange family roots, the only story I had ever heard about the Strange family was hearing about how they came to be in Texas when they had been in Alabama for generations. Samuel Lusers Strange left Martling, Alabama riding a large white horse heading West to seek land that he could farm. Eventually, he found affordable land in Foard Co, Texas. He rode his horse back to Martiling and hired three box cars to move his family to Texas. They farmed for a time in Foard and then they bought a farm right outside of Electra, Texas where he and Gay, his wife, raised children and crops. Later, they moved across the river in Oklahoma. Everyone was always welcome in their home and Gay worked tirelessly to make a comfortable home for her large brood. She even made willow furniture for her home from the willow trees that grew along the Red River! She was always willing to lend a hand with the grandchildren according to my grandmother, Ollie Frances Bradberry Goff.
I would like to thank my grandmother, Linda Roholt, Eliza J. Strange Von Rice and many others who have sent me information and photos. Some of the photos I had have been lost somehow (I think the computer ate them!).
I am still gathering stories and pictures of the Strange family so check back often for updates.
