Living married Jack Leak COOK Sr [image] son of Patrick Delaney COOK Sr and Della Grace STARKEY. Jack was born 1, 2 on 3 Dec 1929 in Palestine, Anderson, TX. He died 3 on 2 Jun 1990 in Fairfield, Freestone, TX. He was buried on 6 Jun 1990 in Chambers Cemetery, Anderson Co, TX.
Jack served in the military US Navy 1950 - Aug 1954 in Korea. He joined religion Nondenominational/Baptist. He was employed 4 as glassmaker @ Knox Glass 1959 - 1982 in Palestine, Anderson, TX. He was employed as farmer and cattle rancher 1969 - 1990 in Old Boston Rd, Anderson Co, TX. He was employed as Handyman 1987 - 1990 in Palestine, Anderson, TX.
Jack grew up in the area between Palestine and Elkhart, attending Elkhart public schools. He entered the Navy as a boilerman in 1950, and received an honorable discharge in August, 1954. During his tour of duty in Korean waters, he was scalded his when his ship was hit by shore fire.
After he left the service, he moved back to Anderson County and farmed for a while. After he and Helen married, they moved to Houston where Jack sold insurance for a few years before they moved back to Palestine. Jack worked for Knox Glass Company for over 20 years before the company (which by that time was Glass Containers Corporation) went out of business. After that, he worked at odd jobs before he got a job at the Meadowbrook Country Club as a groundskeeper.
Jack had a great sense of humor and liked to tease. He loved working on his farm with the cows and loved mechanic work. He was always working on one vehicle or another or some farm machine. He made a wicked barbeque and was famous in the area for that.
After attending the first birthday party for their granddaughter Amy, he and Helen were going to Burleson, Texas to see their son Jack and his family when Jack Sr. fell asleep at the wheel. The car went off the road and hit an culvert. He killed and Helen was severely injuried and there were times it was doubtful she would pull through. Helen was still fighting for her life when the funeral for Jack was held. Fortunately, someone taped the service and Helen was able to grieve in her own time. He was much loved and will always be missed by his family and friends.
