OAKWOOD--Funeral services for Jimmie Moore, 83, of Oakwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Alvin Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Oakwood, with the Rev. W. A. Newman and Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Hassell & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore died Friday in Anderson county Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Oakwood, Moore was born November 29, 1899, a son of Jonathan Mathews Moore and Emma Patton Hobbs Mooe. He was a retired farmer, merchant and road commissioner. He was a member of the Alvin Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, John Stant Moore of Oakwood; a daughter, Mrs. R. A. (Jewell Marie) Jones of Palestine; two sisters, Pearl Hardin of Oakwood and Nettie Hagler of Livingston; three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Allie Jewell Moore; a son, James Allen Mooe; and two brothers, Stant Moore and Alvin Moore.
James married Allie Jewel BEAVERS 1, 2 in 1920/1921 in Leon Co, TX. Allie was born on 15 Mar 1905 in Leon Co, TX. She died on 7 Dec 1956 in Leon Co, TX. She was buried 3 in Oakwood Cemetery, Oakwood, Leon, TX.

Mattie was employed as Homemaker.
CHILDREN: After her death, her father and siblings came up to Dallas and decided how they were going to split up the Mattie's children between them as they didn't believe that Allie would be able to care for them. Allie came in on this meeting and told them in uncertain terms that they were his children and they would be staying with him and that he would see to their raising. It's believed that this is what caused a rift between several of the Holland family members and the Wade family. My grandmother, Bonnie, was told that Mattie Dean was disowned from the family when she married Allie but the records of the births and the close relationship between Allie and his brother Willie as well as her close contact with her siblings Alberta (who was married to Willie), Clara and Lou indicate that the split didn't happen until after her death. In fact, my mother and aunt remember one of the older aunts recounting what happened between the Wades and Hollands after Mattie died. It seems like stubborn pride on both the part of Allie and John Andrew kept Mattie's children from knowing her family as well as she would have probably liked.
DEATH: It's ironic that Mattie Dean Holland Wade died of complications of childbirth as this is the same way her mother died. It seems that both women had so many children so close together that it killed them. Of course in those days, there wasn't much known about preventing pregnancy and I'm sure that this contributed to their deaths.

MARRIAGE: You will notice Thelma Lou Wade married her half-uncle, John Andrew "Dick" Holland, Jr. as you go through the family tree. This is not a mistake. For many years, they loved each other but didn't give into their feelings. In fact, Aunt Thelma was married twice and Uncle Dick was married at least once before they married in 1941 or thereabouts. As you might imagine, there was a great deal of consternation in the family but after realizing that Dick and Thelma were happy, most wished them well. She was not raised around him while she was growing up due to a split between the Holland Family and the Wade Family after Mattie Dean Holland Wade's death. So it's not exactly like Dick dandled Aunt Thelma on his knee and then married her when she grew up. As I said, they were very happy for the nine years they were together. She never married again after he died. |

..."The first barber for Willetts's barber shop was Johnnie's great uncle, Dick Holland, his grandmother's brother. The barber shop must have had a very faulty hot water heater though because everytime Mr Holland would disappear to check on the hot water heater, you could ...always hear something gurgling..... then when he came back........ he could cut more hair, better, than most people could when they were sober...... The whole room laughs. Jackie Campbell Sparks remembers Dick Holland. She said he bought her father's barber fixtures when her father came down with Tuberculosis. Her father, Jackie Campbell, was the first barber of River Oaks.

Rosetta was employed as Lake Como Overseer 1945 - 1954 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant, TX.
She was called "Bee" by the family. The story has it that she came from California to take care of Allie's children. Since she was from Georgia and had lived in Grandview, Texas, the explanation of her being in California at that time is that she was visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Wesley and Ruby Bushrey, who owned a laundry in California. Unfortunately, we don't have a name of the town they lived in at that time. She was the caretaker of Lake Como in the 1940s and 50s.
It's amazing that she took on the role of wife to Allie as he was still grieving for his wife, Mattie. She didn't have any children but took on the role and was the only mother my grandmother Bonnie ever knew and she loved her very much. It is said, in the family, that the older children resented her coming into the home to take over the role that Mattie had but I believe that all were reconciled in time and even grew to care for Bee. She taught my grandmother how to sew, play jacks and let her dance. I believe that she even encouraged my grandmother's love of music.
