Services Today for Mrs. Gist
Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at the Oakwood Methodist church for Mrs. John Gist, 79, who died Sunday afternoon at the Palestine Nursing Home after a long illness. The Rev. O.B. Hardin officiated. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Gist was a native and lifelong resident of Oakwood and was a member of the Oakwood Methodist Church.
Pallbearers are Roy Colbert, Bobby Stroud, Alfred Biggs, Sonny Coats, Paul Biggs, and Bill Barnett.
Survivors are her husband, two sons, Johnnie of Austin and Jack D. Gist of Oakwood, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Rites at Oakwood for John Gist
John Gist, 85, died at 8 a.m. Saturday in Austin following a lengthy illness. A native of Alabama, he had make his home in Oakwood for many years.
Funeral services are to be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Oakwood Methodist Church with the Rev. O. B. Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be W. W. Bryan, Alfred Biggs, Paul Biggs, W. J. Barnett, Cross Moore, and Roy Colbert.
Mr. Gist was custodian of Oakwood schools for 35 years prior to his retirement in 1955. He was a member of Oakwood Methodist Chrch.
The body will be at Bailey Funeral Home in Palestine prior to being carried to the church for services.
Mr. Gist is survived by two sons, Jack D. Gist of Oakwood, and J. M. Gist of Austin; two grandchildren and a great-gramdchild.
