157. Margrett Tryphena MOORE 1, 2, 3, 4 (Allen Mathis

) was born on 5 Aug 1856 in AR. She died in 1911/1913 in TX.
She was a witness at Harmon Allen Wade and Mattie Dean Holland's marriage and signed the marriage certificate Margrett Northcutt.
I had thought that her middle name was Thelma and that's who her granddaughter Thelma Lou was named for. However, since I have found her in the 1910 Tarrant Co, TX census listed with her son, Harmon A Wade, and she is listed as Tryphena Margaret, I think that this may be what the T stands for. I am beginning to think that after W D Northcutt died, she went back to using the name Wade as her surname. Thus the listing in the 1910 Tarrant County, Texas census - Tryphena Margaret.

Margrett married (1) James W WADE 1, 2. James was born in 1850/1851 in VA. He died in 1880/1892 in Probably Leon Co, TX.
Judging from the names of his children and grandchildren, I am inclined to believe that his middle name is William.
SURNAME:This surname is thought to be derived from the position of 'minstrel-watchman'. These were people who used to walk the streets just before christmas, singing songs and calling the time. The first known Wayte(etc) was Ralf de Waiet, who married Emma, sister of Roger, Earl of Hereford, cousin of William the Conqueror.
Wade is generally held to come from Waad or Wada and the name is found in the British Isles before the Norman Conquest. It is however almost certainly of Nordic origin and tales of a giant Wade and a Saxon Duke Wada were widespread before William the Conqueror.
More Wade surname theories:
According to "The Surnames of Ireland" by Edward MacLysaght, the surname WADE in the Oriel counties in Ireland is also known as MacWade and is a corruption of "MacQuaid." Elswhere in Ireland the name is of dual derivation - Old English "Wadden" (to go) and Norman-French "Wade" (to ford). The name Wade has been found in all 13 provinces of Ireland since the 13th century. Probably more than you wanted to know!
The Wade family from Cornwall England is descended from a Henry de la Wade who came over from Normandy in c. 1100. I have some of them back to the 1300's. The family I am researching lived in and around the Tintagel Parish. (Jean E. Wade)

OBITUARY: Waxahachie, TX, 1 Sep 1935
MOORE - H. M. Moore of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Ellis Co, TX, died at the home of his daughter M. J. Winn, Forreston, Ellis, TX whom he was visiting on 8-30-1935. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Forreston, TX. Moore came to Ellis Co. in 1910 and lived near Waxahachie before moving to Oklahoma. Surviving are his wife, Annie Pauline, three sons, Luther H. Moore of Waco, Sidney Earl Moore of Houston and Tandy E. Moore of Dallas, three daughters, Mrs. Stacy t. Roberts of Dallas, Mrs. C. T. Hinkle of Oklahoma City and Mrs. J. W. Winn.
At one point, he and his wife lived in Rotan, TX (just north of Abilene) and had a horse wrangling business and rand. It is not known how long the business lasted, but Mrs. Moore reported telling about how they lost the ranch and the business. They were driving their horses north to sell to the US Army in Kansas. It was a drought year and when the herd got close to the Red River and the smelled the warer, (at that point they were several days without water) the horse stampeded. The horses ran into the water and foundered. They all bloated and had to be shot. When Mrs. Moore was telling this story, she was almost totally blind and a tear could be seen flowing out of both eyes.
(Note: The date on the headstone in Forreston Cemetery shows his birth as 8-5-1856 and his death as 9-29-1935. The death date is in conflict with the date on the death certificate #37444 and in the obit. Fran Johnson)
Harmon married Annie Pauline RADFORD 1, 2 about 1877 in Centerville, Leon, TX. Annie was born on 25 Dec 1862 in Palestine, Anderson, TX (prob). She died on 2 Jul 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, OK.
