Lee Knowles Oakwood Dies
Lee Knowles, 74, of Oakwood, uncle of W.M. Knowles of Palestine, died at 9:30 a.m. today in
a local hospital.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Methodist Church with burial at
Oakwood Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Faul Landrum and Rev. R. S. Marshall of
Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Cross Moore, Douglas Maddux, Rufus Hardin, Earl Haley, Murphy Haley,
Lovie Haley, Otis Pate and Roy Colbert.
Born and reared in Oakwood, he was a retired pharmacist and a member of the Methodist
Church.
Survivors are his widow; his brothers and sister, R. L. and T. R. Knowles and Mrs. Kitty
Holley of Oakwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.

MARRIAGE: Anyway an interesting story is that when Mr. Pruitt died, "Aunt Tine" as my grandmother "Yaddie" referred to her, was left a widow with six children and no way to support them. Her ever resourceful sisters-in-law across the canyon "shopped" a tintype picture of her around to all the single men they knew. It turned out that several were interested, however Mr. Billy Hobbs was the suitor who married her. He was a widower with five children, she had six children and they had one daughter together, Edna Hobbs. (Story sent by Sue Helveston)
