21. Solomon GOFFE 1, 2, 3 (Aaron
, Phillip
) was born on 7 Feb 1685 in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT. He died in 1734/1738 in Willington, Hartford, CT.
North of this was a tract of some 140 acres which was taken by Aaron Goffe, of Wethersfield, in the settlement of the Cole estate. Nothing was done with the land until Solomon Goffe bought his brothers' interest in the property in 1711 after his father's death. The deed, recorded only in Wethersfield, reads that the farm is in the woods and bounds west on the Country road and extends north, east and south. Truly a somewhat indefinite description. Mr. Goffe moved to Meriden and built his house in 1711, that is still on the east side of Colony street a little north of the Griswold street junction and is now known as the Samuel Clark place. It is undoubtedly the oldest house in Meriden and certainly has a venerable appearance. We know nothing about Mr. Goffe except that he lived here ten years, married a Wallingford girl, Mary Doolittle, and the birth of one child is recorded. In 1721 he sold the place to Thomas Andrews, of Wallingford, who, apparently, lived there until 1729, when he sold it to Jonathan Collins, of Middletown. ( Historic Record of the Town of Meriden, Connecticut, 1906, Vol 2 )
RESIDENCE: Solomon Goffe's home is still standing in Meriden, New Haven County, Connecticut. The home was built featuring a gembrel roof in 1711 and is located at 667 North Colony Street. Solomon sold his home on Christmas Day, 1712 according to the curator (Nancy Fama) of the house which is being used as a living museum which highlights the herb and vegetable garden.
BIOGRAPHY: Solomon must have suffered a series of financial reverses because by 1734, he was living in Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut, and was unable to provide for his son, Reuben, who is described in the Colonial Connecticut Records, Vol VII, as being an idiot. By May 1738, Prince Tracy of Willington was responsible for Reuben's care leading me to believe that Solomon and Mary had died by this time.
Solomon married (1) Elizabeth 1 about 1709 in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT. Elizabeth died on 5 Jan 1711/1712 in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT.
They had the following children:

Elizabeth GOFFE was born 1 on 9 Mar 1710/1711 in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT. She died as a child. |

Mary and Solomon took guardianship of her sisters Abigail, Martha, Hannah, Thankfull and Esther Doolittle after the death of her father. Martha married Daniel Hall on 20 Apr 1721.
PARENTS: Samuel Doolittle died about 1714 in Middletown, Hartford, CT. His will is dated 28 Oct 1714 and he names his daughter Mary Doolittle Goffe as one of his heirs.
