Sarah Emily is not listed here, she is listed with their son George Sidney and his new wife Eva in Thompson Twp.One of the stories about Barry mentions that he grew tired of one of Ella's sons (probably Albert) sleeping until noon unless his mother awoke him and decided to teach the boy a lesson. He went to the well and drew up a bucket of ice cold water and dumped the contents on the sleeping teen. It's said that there wasn't any more trouble with the lazy boy.

Samuel Coats Dies After Long Illness
Sam Coats passed away at his home, 411 Marsahll Place at 5:00 o'clock this morning after a lingering illness. His death was due to a complication of diseases. He did his last work the first part of Octiber and since that time has been confined to his bed.
Samuel Coats was born in Warren County, Kentucky in the year 1851 thus being 68 years of age at the time of death.
He was married to Sarah Kelly on December 2, 1875 and to this union were bonr five children of whom all survive to mourn his death. The three boys are Love Coats of Rock Island, Henry Coats of Davenport, and Sidney Coats of Monmouth. The two daughters are Mrs. Maggie Farrington of Cameron and Mrs. Camma Mounts (sic) of Chicago. He was later married a second time to Mary Ellen Stone of Galesburg, August 30, 1913. Since that time, they have lived at Camron, Alexis, Avon and the last three years were spent in Galesburg where he has been employed by the Peoples Fuel Company.
Service will be held at Dean's Chapel at 6:30 Friday morning. The body will then be taken to Avon for burial.OBITUARY: The Galesburg Evening Mail, 26 Nov 1919, pg 2
SAMUEL COATS
Samuel Berry Coats died this morning at 5 o'clock at his home, 411 Marshall Place. He has been failing in health for the past two months and the cause of his death was due to disease of the heart.
The deceased was born March 5, 1851 in Warren county, Kentucky. He was the son of George and Peggy Doyle Coats. He was united in marriage to Sarah Kelly of that vicinity in 1875. They came to Monmouth in 1898 and while living there he was engaged in farm work. To this unionfive children were born. Two daughters * and his wife preceded him in death several years ago He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was united in marriage about six yers ago to Ella Stone of Avon. For several years, he was a resident of this city.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, Ella Stone Coats, three sons, George Sidney coats, Monmouth; Marion Lovel Coats, Rock Island; Henry Coats, Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Farrington, Cameron; Mrs. Wm. Ammat, 4058 Oakenwald Avenue, Chicago. The following step-children also survive: Tedd Stone, Oren Stone, Albert Stone, all of Avon. Miss Edith Wilson and Miss Maudie Stone, step-daughters, preceded him in death several years ago.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
*I think that this is supposed to read granddaughters as Wanda Farrington had died of the flu the preceding year and most likely the Maggie Coats that's listed with Samuel and Sarah in the 1900 census was a granddaughter. ggh

She took care of her grandson, Forrest Perdue, after her daughter Cammie divorced her husband George. From all accounts, she was a sweet tempered woman with a kind heart.

Mrs. Samuel Coates
Mrs. Samuel Coates died last evening at her home in Cameron, after having suffered for about one week from inflammation of the bowels. She has been sick since last Saturday evening, and since that time she has been failing fast. The deceased has been a resident of Cameron for a number of years and was highly respected by all who knew her.
Sarah Kelly was born in Bowling Green, Ky., and came to this state after having married Samuel Coates. Five children and the husband are living and all but two members of the family were at home at the time of the death. Mrs. Coates was about 63 years of age and the hot weather, together with her advanced age, was thought to have been partly responsible for the end.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Christian church in Cameron, of which the deceased was a member and the interment will be made in Silent Home cemetery.

Sarah Emily Kelly was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, June 7, 1849 and moved to Illinois 19 years ago, settling near Cameron. Besides her husband, Samuel L. Coates, and sister, Mrs. Eaton of Berwick, five children are left to mourn the death of their beloved mother. They are: G.S. Coats, L.M. Coats, H.P. Coats and Mrs. Margaret Ferrington, all of Cameron and C.J. Emmet of Dallas, Texas.
