MARLENE MARIE MYERS

Mrs. Marlene Marie Myers, age 68, a Chester native, passed away March 17, 2000, at her home in Palestine, Texas after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at the Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Chapel in Palestine, on March 21, 2000, with the Rev. M. T. Blackmon officiating. Interment was in the Landof Memory Cemetery.

Mrs. Myers was born in Chester on March 22, 1931, to Wallace Dale and Mina Coats Hobbs. She graduated from Chester HIgh School, and worked at Carter's Drive In Gorcery in Chester. She also had worked as assistant manager at the Granbury Chamber of Commerce in Granbury, TX, with the civil service division at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi, with the Austin, TX ISD, and in Palestine at the JC Penney catalog department for many years. Mrs. Myers was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Palestine. She was preceded in death by her father Wallace Hobbs.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Myers, of Palestine; her mother, Mina Hobbs, of Palestine; two sons: Steve Spence , of Palestine, and Craig Spence, of Montalba, TX; a step-son: Mike Myers, of Malakoff, TX; two daughters: Jerri Fincher, of Elkhart, TX, and Crystal Hudson, of Tennessee Colony, TX; three step-daughters: Deborah Denson, of Houston, TX, Kelly Weaver, of Henderson, TX, and Marcy Myers, of Palestine; a brother: Gary Hobbs, of Cooper, TX; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services for Marlene Marie Myers, 68, of Palestine, will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. M. T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Meyers died Friday at her home.
She was born March 22, 1931 in Chester, Ill. to Wallace Dale and Mina Custer Hobbs.

Marlene married (1) Billy Ray SPENCE on 5 Jun 1948. They were divorced on 13 Oct 1972. Billy was born on 1 Feb 1928 in Henderson, Rusk, TX. He died on 7 Nov 2001 in Tyler, Smith, TX. He was buried 1 on 10 Nov 2001 in Herrington Land of Memory Cemetery, Palestine, Anderson, TX. Billy was employed as RR. He joined religion Episcopalian.

Billy Ray Spence
Services for Billy Ray Spence, 73, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Spence died Wednesday at East Texas Medical Center of Tyler.
He was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Good Springs to Ola and Hester Watson Spence.
Mr. Spence had lived in the Palestine area since 1951. He was a member of Bassett Road Baptist Church. He retired as a switchman for the railroad and as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
He was a member of the Holy City Riders motorcycle club and the Gold Wing Association. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Spence is survived by his wife, Doris E. Spence of Palestine; sons, Steve Spence, Craig Spence and Gary Patrick, all of Palestine, John Patrick of Houston and Darrell Patrick of Tyler; daughters, Jerri Fincher of Palestine and Crystal Hudson of Tennessee Colony; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Wierema, Jim Newcomb, Kenneth Currington, James Currington, Larry Currington and Jimmy Myers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Britton, R.D. Nash, James Ashby, Leroy Phillips and Fred Robinson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Bassett Road Baptist Church, 907 Bassett Road, Palestine, Texas, 75801.

Dana Hobbs
BULLARD - Funeral services for Dana Hobbs, 7, of Lake Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, the Revs. Bobby Conners and Royce Lasater officiating. Burial will be in Bullard Cemetery under the direction of Hassell & Foster Funeral Home of Palestine.
Dana died Friday afternoon at a Tyler hospital after being injured in a traffic accident.
She was born Aug. 31, 1976, in Tyler, a daughter of Ruby Hodo Hobbs and Gary Hobbs. She was a straight-A student in the second grade at Bullard Elementary School and also was active in twirling and gymnastics.
Survivors include her mother, Ruby C. Hobs of Lake Palestine; her father and step-mother, Gary and Gwen Hobbs of Palestine; two brothers, Damon W. Hobbs of Lake Palestine and Dalen Hobbs of Palestine; her grandparents, J.W. and Ruth Hodo of Lake Palestine, Mina Hobbs and Willard Goff, both of Palestine, and Louise Anderson of Nacogdoches and her great-grandparents, Jim and Edith Higginbotham of Sherman and Mr. and Mrs. Willard D. Goff of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Hunt, Bill Perry, Trey Dennis, Pon Fincher, Ronald Hardin and Paul Wofford.
Condolence calls will be received at the Hobbs residence, 112 W. Park, telephone 729-6142, and at the Ruby Hobbs residence, Lake Palestine, telephone 825-2023.
