Hi Ms. Guiffre,

Your grandmother Mary and my great-grandmother, Annie Ada Steers (b. 1885 in Washington, DC), were sisters. If you're interested in filling in current history (generations after Mary's and Annie's), I can fill you in on my lineage in a future mailing.

Charles Walker Steers died (as you probably know) in January 1899; his wife Rachel Gruver (my records show GRUVER rather than GROVER) Tyler died in March 1915. Both are buried in Glenwood Cemetary in Washington, DC. I've visited the cemetary (in 1982) and have a picture of the tombstone (they are buried in the same plot and one tombstone holds both their names). Their daughter Annie married a man named Crump; they had three daughters. One, Evelyn, died when she was three years old and was buried in the plot with her grandparents, Charles and Rachel.

As I was flipping through my records, I found that I have both the original
newspaper clipping of the death notice and the mass card from the funeral of your grandmother, Mary Virginia Steers Guiffre. (I KNEW I recognized your last name when I saw it)

I'd love to exchange more info if you're interested

Hoping to hear from you,
Elizabeth (Dickert) Massa
