Welcome to the Guédry-Labine Family Genealogical Database developed by the Les Guidry d’Asteur, Inc. Genealogy Committee. For more information on Les Guidry d’Asteur, Inc. - the Guedry-Labine family association, visit our website at:

The Acadian family of Claude Guédry and Marguerite Petitpas has many descendants in North America and possibly other parts of the world. Today the largest concentrations of descendants are in south Louisiana, southeast Texas and the Clare municipality of Nova Scotia. Although we go by many names today, we are all cousins. Some of our surnames are Guédry, Guedry, Guidry, Gaidry, Guildry, Guitry, Gidry, Geddry, Gedry, Jeddry, Jedry, Labine, LaBine, LaBean, Soucie-Labine and Soucie.
The Guédry Surname
Over the past three hundred and fifty years the Guédry surname used by Claude Guédry, husband of Marguerite Petitpas has undergone many transformations. Names transformed from Guédry include Guedry, Guidry, Gaidry, Guildry, Guitry, Gidry, Geddry, Gedry, Jeddry, Jedry, Labine, LaBine, LaBean, Soucie-Labine and Soucie. Persons bearing each of these surnames (except Soucie) are direct descendants of Claude Guédry and Marguerite Petitpas and would be a Guédry today if the Guédry surname had not been changed to their surname. The Soucie surname also occurs for individuals not descended from Claude Guédry and Marguerite Petitpas.
A single individual may have used more than one form of the surname during his lifetime thus making it difficult to determine the proper form of the surname to use in the database. For example, Pierre Guédry, son of Augustin Guédry and Jeanne Hébert, is found in the records under Guédry, Guedry, Lledre and Guidry. When this occurred, we have used the surname most often attributed to that individual.
Please explore our database and let us know if you find errors or additions. Since our goal is to maintain a fully-referenced genealogical database (to the primary sources wherever possible), please provide the source of your information, if possible, when contacting us at the Contact Address below.
_______________
SO LET’S BEGIN
This database contains two types of web pages - Family Web Cards (that contain basic genealogical information on each family) and Person Sheets (that have detailed genealogical information on each individual in the database as well as notes, data conflicts in the records and name variations for that individual).
To get started, click Surnames on the left above. Next click a surname of interest (e.g., GUIDRY). Finally, click the name of the individual that you want to view (e.g., Claude dit Grivois).
A Family Web Card appears which contains three generations of this person’s family: his/her parents are at the top of the page, the subject person and his spouse are in the center and their children are at the bottom of the page. You can move forward and backward through this person’s family tree by clicking the blue (or purple) name of one of his parents or one of his children. (If a name is not blue or purple, then no additional information has been placed in the database on this individual at this time.) [NOTE: Multiple spouses of the husband or wife of the subject couple appear just below the center block. Clicking the appropriate number of a spouse, brings up the Family Web Card for this spouse.]
Clicking the blue (or purple) name of the husband or wife of the subject couple (at the center of the page) brings up the Person Sheet of that individual. Use the Scroll Bar on the right to move up and down the Person Sheet and view all of the data entered into the database on that individual. To view the reference sources for any information on the Person Sheet, double-click the superscript number(s) associated with the specific information for which you would like the reference source(s).
If you see a photo next to a person’s name or a small camera image, clicking on the photo or camera will bring up a page with photographs and documents of that person or family.
That’s all there is to using the Guédry-Labine Family Genealogical Database.
If you have corrections or additions to the database, please contact the author with the information and references, if possible, at the e-mail address below.
