GUDGER
Slaves and their
descendants
Being that the pre-1860 GUDGER family lived in
various places in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, it is known that they
owned slaves. Many of the descendants
of these slaves and former slaves also carry the GUDGER name, and this is an
attempt to establish a base line for their genealogical search.
In 1850, the following families owned slaves.
Newton M. FOSTER and Mary Caroline GUDGER (IV-25)
They had four slaves: A 30-year old female, and 2, 12, and 19-year old males. Whether they were related or not is
undetermined.
William GUDGER (Jr.) and Nancy HENRY (III-11)
They had four slaves: A 20-year old female, and three male children of 2, 6, and
8. Whether they were related to the
20-year old young lady is not determined.
