Our families come from Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia and dates back to 1895 in Kansas.   We also came from Austria, Ireland, Scotland, Hungary, Germany, and England. Traditionally, the last name can tell a lot about your heritage.  The last name often told where you came from and the class of your family.  We haven’t kept that tradition; and so it isn’t as easy to tell much about a person from their last name these days.

Our research on our Stice Family Tree goes links our “Grow Family” with the Stice Family of Germany and Kentucky. Our Stice Family information was mostly obtained by searching http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com

Our Stice Family Connection is through the Grow & Crabtree Family

Most of this information came from Ben Crabtree of Missouri who contacted me back in 2000 when I created my first website for genealogy.  He’s clearly done considerable research!  It looks like he did a much better job finding the Crabtree family than I did.  I was more focused on the Burwell line.  Here is Ben’s site with pictures and stories of the Crabtree line:  http://crabtree_tree.tripod.com/OldCrabtreePhotos.htm Some also came from another researcher of Stice, who’s information escapes me at the moment, but I will go back and gather that info and post here. Some info came from Katherine Grow, widow of Roger Grow Aunt/Uncle).

Marriage 1 Goldie Pearl Black

Roscoe Myrl Grow (B. 12/13/1905-D. 3/1983) Of Atlanta, Kansas, Butler County. He married Goldie Pearl Black. She was from Haskins Camp, near Augusta. (Haskins camp, a settlement south of Augusta during the oil boom.  Apparently both her parents were married before they married each other and she had been shuffled around from relative to relative.  She had some half brothers and sisters. She was only 15 when she met Roscoe in Augusta and was married) Roscoe worked for Beachcraft in Wichita, Kansas. He liked his bar time every Friday and Saturday night.  And word is that the reason he waited on Goldie hand and foot when they were older is because he was making up for the times when they were younger and he didn’t treat her so great.  Goldie thought of Dora Ann Crabtree like a mother and most of the time Dora treated her well.  But, sometimes not so good

  • Gerald Lee (B. ____ still living)
  • Bonnie
  • Geneva
  • Donnie

Jimmy Wilford Grow (B. 1932- D. 1955) Of Atlanta, Kansas, Butler county. He married Anna Ruth Bingham. He was killed when the truck he was driving veered to miss a car full of kids at Wilson, Kansas. Interestingly, Jimmy’s brother Gayle married Anna Ruth’s sister Virginia.

Children:

  • xxxxxxxx (B. 10/26/1952 boy)
  • xxxxxxxx (B. 11/24/1953 boy)
  • xxxxxxxx (B. 3/19/1955-boy)

xxxxxxxx Grow (B. 11/24/1953) met Deborah Jean Chek while home on leave from the U.S. Navy. They were married 9/18/1973 at Burrton United Methodist Church. The Reverand Dellenbaugh proceeded the ceremony. He served in Vietnam at the same times as his two brothers.  He was besides a gunner, the ship cook and he could cook up a batch of cinnamon rolls that would make your mouth water. He was honorably discharged in December of 1973.  He started out in the oilfields in the 70s.  It was a time of major recession, and even through a time when jobs were hard to come by, he was always employed and always moved up from a good job to a better job.  He kept in touch with some guys from his unit because they’d built such an incredible bond over there in Viet Nam.  Then he worked for the Frisco Railroad and after the Frisco-BN merger left him unemployed he went back to the oil field. He was hurt on the job and rather than the company do the right thing, they just fired him to cut their losses.  So, he didn’t set by, he wrote legislators to tell his story and helped to change the worker’s compensation laws.   Deborah and xxxxx managed to stick together through the toughest of times, buy a house, and raise their three girls and sometimes a few of their friends too.  They managed to survive that tough chapter in their life together and found better times just around every corner.  They enjoyed outdoor activities and used that as a major family connection for everyone to enjoy.  They all took up fishing and the girls spent most of their time outside riding bikes, fishing, and playing sports.  The outdoors connected everyone in the family as one. It was a real journey of two best friends going through life together and never giving up on each other.  Knowing just when the other needed a little space or when they needed closeness.  They shared some very good years

Our Family loves to make memories together and save them in our hearts forever

Photographs are a way to capture memories and save them in our hearts, so we can bring those memories alive forever.  Photos give you a peek into yesterday.  They are of times gone by.  They bring back memories, some good some we wish we could forget.  But, they are all memories; which do help us remember our past so that we can live in the present and work to a better future for tomorrow.

Preserving Memories of family times forever
